Prince George , B.C.- A celebration at the University of Northern B.C. this morning as Spectra Energy became a member of a very special group of UNBC supporters.

The company has now become the 9th donor to have donated reached the $1 million dollar mark in donations to the University.

Doug Bloom, President of Spectra West Canada Operations says the company believes in investing in UNBC because it knows those who are trained in the north will stay in the north.

The University’s Vice President of External Relations, Rob Van Adrichem says Spectra, has made more awards for Aboriginal students than any other donor. He also said that while UNBC has just 1.9% of the university seats in B.C., 2/3 of all graduates working in the north, are graduates of UNBC, that’s more than all of the other B.C. universities combined.

Spectra’s first donation to the University was in 1995. Over the years, the donations have supported, among other things,  the Northern Medical Program Trust, the Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture ,and student awards.
