Valemount, B.C. – RCMP in Valemount have made several drug busts as part of a highway safety event last week.

The three day campaign on highways 16 and 5  was meant to heighten safety awareness as well as detect impaired drivers, increase seat belt compliance and ensure all vehicles traveling on the Highway were safe and road worthy.

During this initiative RCMP located 25 lbs of marijuana being transported in a large hockey bag. The driver of the vehicle was prohibited from operating a Motor Vehicle and was also in breach of a number of conditions. The 27 year old Alberta male was arrested and held in custody then later released by a Justice of the Peace.

A 46 year old male from McLeese Lake B.C. is facing drug trafficking charges after RCMP located marijuana, some hash and approximately $13,000 in cash inside his vehicle.

Police also located 11 lbs of marijuana concealed in the pontoons of an inflatable fishing boat. A 32 year old male from Williams Lake B.C. is facing charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released on a Promise to Appear in court on a later date.

The driver of a Commercial Transport Truck was issued a 24 hour Driving suspension due to drug impairment. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana as well as taking the pain killer drug, Percocet. RCMP seized marijuana and three bottles of Percocet pills that were not prescribed to the driver. He is now facing drug related charges in relation to the incident.

Comments

I recall a few years ago Valemount RCMP were drug busting just checking vehicles.
Should be weekly thing, pay for a lot of overtime.
Good job, carry on.

Legalize it, sell it like alcohol and put a couple of billion dollars in the provincial coffers that would cover all the overtime you could ever need. All that money could be used to do a lot of good. Rather then making rich gangstas, use the money for education or health care. Smoking marijuana is not a crime, putting innocent people in jail is a crime. Legalize it

they sure are getting creative!

Wow! I wonder how many vehicles were checked during this time? Wish we could have that number. It would sort of put it into perspective.

Transporter for hire…delivery guaranteed…

Do they have search warrants?

Don’t worry acrider, I’m sure the defense lawyers will be asking those questions too.

Do they need search warrants? Probable cause? (Or is that just American TV?)

I completely agree with ‘bonneville’. Legalize it. It increases revenue, decreases crime and expenses in court and jail time. Alcohol is worse on a person than pot. If alcohol is legal, pot should be too.

Pot is illeagle ,so was boose,, prohabition ,,a lot of us older folks know how succesfull that was.
