Getting Ready for Winter on the Road

Prince George, B.C.- The Ministry of Transportation, ICBC and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement are working together this morning to spread the word to drivers about being ready for winter.
With snow in the forecast for the weekend, drivers in Prince George are encouraged to get their vehicles outfitted with winter tires. This morning, truckers pulling into the weigh scales on the Hart were given information packets that contain everything from a window scraper to tips on winter driving.
ICBC reminds you that if you are travelling a road which has a sign saying you must have winter tires or chains and your vehicle is not properly equipped, you can be stopped.
While some other provinces in Canada have the winter tire regulations which make it illegal to be on the roads without properly approved winter tires ( the ones with the snowflake emblem) such legislation is difficult to apply to B.C. because of the varying weather conditions. While many would agree the snow conditions north of Cache Creek would warrant such rules, much of the lower mainland may only see one or two snow events through the entire winter season if at all.
Drivers are also encouraged to check www.drivebc.ca for the latest road conditions before heading out to ensure they are aware of the road conditions.

God we’re getting stupid
Good initiative. Many people can use the tips. I would suggest though, thier time might be better spent giving tips and info packages to say…seniors in highschool and college students.(Maybe they are , who knows) These groups are inexperienced and could use the attention. Greg Jago and the likes are seasoned vetrans and he has probably backed up more miles than the Ministry guy has driven forward. – just sayin
