Smithers Man Dies In Avalanche Near Stewart BC

Stewart- a 50 year old Smithers area resident has died in an avalanche that swept down a steep slope as he and a co worker were taking GPS coordinates .
The accident happened at 3.50pm. yesterday when police were advised that the man had been swept away in the avalanche at a Minerals camp near Sulphurets Creek about 50 Kilometres north of Stewart.
One of the men was able to get free from the avalanche while the Smithers man was trapped.
Avalanche technicians and search crews from a neighbouring mine assisted in the search and located the man’s body which had been carried by the avalanche over a 300 meter cliff.
