Police cruiser damaged when attacked by bull moose this morning – photos-courtesy RCMP
Prince George, B.C.- An RCMP officer is resting at home following a run in with a moose early this morning.
Just before 1:00 am, the officer was parked roadside near the corner of 17th Avenue and Juniper Street typing a report from a previous file when he saw two moose crossing the intersection. The officer put his vehicle in gear and attempted to intercept a vehicle traveling towards the animals.
As the police vehicle neared the animals, the bull moose attacked the police car. The moose first broke the front grill and bumper and then stepped on to the vehicle causing dents to the hood, roof and breaking the windshield. Now on the roof, the moose continued to stomp and kick. One of the animal’s hoofs slid off the roof breaking the driver’s side window, striking the officer in the process. The moose continued down the back of the vehicle onto the trunk and eventually off the vehicle.
Both the culprit and accomplice "hoofed it" out the area.
The officer suffered bruising on his left shoulder but did not require medical attention. He completed his shift and went home to recuperate. A witness to this wild event was located and has been spoken to.
The Prince George RCMP would like to use this incident as a reminder to the public to keep a safe distance from wild animals.

Wow!
I’ve lived two blocks away from where this happened for ~10 years, and I’ve never seen a moose in the area…..
I hope they find him and make him pays a whole bunch of quarters for the deductible.
Moose vs cop??? Looks like the moose won.
Probably not too funny at the time, but THAT will be a story for him to tell! Good thing everyone will be okay.
Too funny! Glad the officer wasn’t hurt. Somebody (or should I say some Moose) woke up on the wrong side of the bed (bush) this morning.
Lets see if it was a bear it would have been blown away. In Prince George people have been injured and dogs injured and killed by moose. The authorities just say be careful out there. But when a bear shows up it gets blown away even though there have been no bear attaches in this area in ages. This is funny!
Shouldn’t have tried to arrest Rocky and Bullwinkle.
Maybe it was trained to keep people away from a grow-op?
Did the officer have a tag? Was he practicing his “Cow Call”? Was the moose a member of the Renegades? Thought it was another bull? The smell of too much testosterone?
I could go on and on, this is too damn funny.
I can only imagine every day for the next year, this officer will hear a variety of bull grunts and cow calls on a regular basis.
Glad you’re just nursing a bruised shoulder, but the black humour will ease the pain….
wonder if that jeep in the back ground is an officers vehicle. It has an illegal front bumper. It should be nailed with an inspection notice.
Constable Dudley Do Right have the opportunity to tazer it? A good rack on said moose could be just as dangerous as a stapler. Right?
Every bad guys dream. Kick the crap out of a police car and walk away scott free.
And you hear people crying that the moose population is declining. Those hunters are never happy with the numbers of moose we have So whos fibbing.
Cheers
Along the same idea as seamutt you are to report a bear that is acting aggressively or damaging property to Conservation where the bear will then be “dispatched” yet there is nothing further to the story what the fate of this moose will be even though
property was damaged and the officer was injured. I would rather meet a Black bear in the forest than a moose. So a moose attacks, does damage and injures someome, bear climbs fruit tree has a snack and gets shot.I guess what is saving the moose is the current population estimates.
Hood Moose…. unpredictable
Just a reminder. A few years ago a lady was walking near Pi Elwood Elementary with her dog off leash and said dog charged a cow with 2 calves. Dog was sinister by said moose just protecting her babies. Mom was shot by CO’s within a few hours. So it’s not just bears. People are the problem not be animals.
For got to mention. Doggie ran back to mommy after harassing calves and mommy got kicked by moose. Moose deemed dangerous cause it protected itself and its young and got killed for the effort. This moose had been in the area for over a month and it was in Feb that this incident happened. Dog was not in a off leash area and quite apparently not under control of its owner.
This has made national news!!! Another crime stat for PG???
I guess us folks are not the only ones fed up with the RCMP.
heard the moose was with the “Big Game Tight Moose Gang”
I hope they don’t start anything with the Renegames.
Wow, what a lot of lame humour.
Pretty interesting that moose would be in that area. Strange that it would attack the car rather than run the other way.
metalman.
Welcome to moose rage! Perhaps he thought the car was a speed bump.
Pretty dumb move to get closer to the moose in an effort to stop another vehicle. Did he think the other driver was driving by brail. That’s gonna cost all of us for another car and those cars are a bit more expensive than the average car.
