Murdered and Missing Women Commission Granted Extension

Thursday, October 25, 2012 @ 2:39 PM
Victoria, B.C. – The  Government has extended the deadline for the  Commission on Murdered and Missing Women to file its report.
The report was to have been filed by October 31st of this year, but a request from Commissioner Wally Oppal has resulted in an extension to November 30th.

That doesn’t mean the report will be made public at that time, as it will need to be reviewed for privacy issues. The actual public release date of the report will be determined in consultation with the commission.

The commission was established in September 2010, to report on investigations into missing and murdered women in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside between January 1997 and February 2002.

The final report will be based on evidence from 94 days of public hearings, written submissions and public forums .

To date, the work of the commission has cost the provincial government $8.6 million dollars.
