RCMP Raid Alleged Flop House in New Aiyansh

New Aiyansh, B.C. – RCMP in the Nass Valley say they had little choice other than to raid a home in the Nisga’a village of New Aiyansh this week.
Police officers executed a warrant at the house Thursday, but it’s not the first time the RCMP have been to the residence. The Wright Boulevard home was served with a “Problem Property” notice in March in an effort to curb what police allege was rampant illegal activity.

RCMP say it’s well known as a flop house where alcohol and drugs are used to excess.
At the time of the original police visit, RCMP offered information and support to residents at the home to help them make changes in behaviour. But Detachment Commander Sgt. Donovan Tait says it was of little avail.
"In the spirit of crime reduction, we have monitored this residence for quite some time and we are working with the village officials in an effort to effectively deal with the activity. This residence is a place where our vulnerable youth and those struggling with dependency issues can get access to liquor and drugs. We exercised great discretion in dealing with the resident’s of the house but public safety was now in jeopardy – they left us no choice".
Tait says village government officials attended the scene Thursday to provide support to both the RCMP members and the people in the home.
The detachment says their support is crucial to the RCMP’s crime reduction efforts throughout the Nisga’a Nation.

Flop house? In this politically correct world it could also be defined as a “residential drop in centre and rest haven”.
Eh…. flop house.
Unfortunately the native youth culture is dependant on drugs and alcohol on many reserves because the councils there have not put their foot down but used the free money from the government for their personal uses. Their are some native reserves that are proactive and responsible and use the money wisely and do not have these issues as much.
