Residents Moved to 5 Corners in Prince Rupert After 7.7 Earthquake Hits

Prince Rupert, B.C. – All emergency personnel living in the city of Prince Rupert have been called in to work as police and other emergency services are asking those residents who live near the water in that city to move to higher ground as a precaution.
A 7.7 earthquake hit the area just after 8.pm. tonight. The area in particular that police have now placed a road block up at, and are asking people to move to the area, known as the 5 corners.
Rob Vallee said he was on phone with his friend Rob Eby when the earthquake hit. "My wife came running out the house, it was really shaking. She said the furniture was moving around the living room". Eby said "the car suddenly started moving all over on the road."
Vallee says because of the location of Prince Rupert, "we are not in as bad a shape as some other areas along the coast that are more exposed and many of them have no way of knowing what’s going on."

We have family out there I do hope they r ok as we can not get ahold of them:(
Keep trying , we got a call through to our family in Rupert within about 15 mins and there where no reports of injury . Just a lot of shaken people , no pun intended .
Thanks Ben,
You’ve got 4 stories updating the information for both Prince George and Haida Gwaii. The Northern View posted one story at 9:23 and nothing since. To the person who said they have not been able to reach their family here, I wouldn’t worry if they are in Rupert as there was some shaking, but nothing severe. They are probably out downtown as it’s the last Saturday prior to Halloween and most of the restaurants and Pubs are doing Parties tonight. I would imagine they will be home fairly soon as they are evacuating everything along the shore as a precaution, be we’re in pretty good shape here with all the islands in the harbour and the fact that the quake was on the west side of Haida Gwaii
