Snowfall no Record Breaker

Tuesday, October 30, 2012 @ 10:16 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The 17 centimetres of snow dumped on Prince George yesterday wasn’t a record snowfall for one day , but the city was hit with a full 26 centimetres of snow since Saturday.

“The record one day snowfall in October was 25 centimetres on October 25th of 1971” says Environment Canada Meteorologist Jim Steele .

He says to add insult to injury, the snow stopped and   Prince George awoke this morning to a beautiful clear sky, but a deep freeze temperature of minus 21. “Still not a record” says Steele “although we have been flirting with a record as the coldest its been on this day is -24.”

He says the system that dumped all the snow here, is still creating some issued east of Prince George and that is something to keep in mind if you have plans to drive east on highway 16.

The weather will improve by the weekend, with temperatures in the plus 5 range on Friday, and plus 8 on Saturday.

As for the trick or treaters….. “The early evening temperatures will be around minus 5 to minus 3, so make some costume adjustments and add the snow boots, this is not a Halloween where you want to wear ballerina slippers.”

What the heck happened,,,the past 4 days has been one bad dream, Enjoy shovelling every one.

Great to see the street and sidewalk in front of Shari’s business cleaned.. what about the rest of the city ?

We live in the North and will live through more record snowfalls. If people are not prepared for it well learn. As a tax payer i agree, why spend large amounts of budget to plow and clean every street with the warmer weather approaching?
Still a lot of winter ahead of us.

Global Warming, lets get serious about it and do something. I’m going to idle my diesel.

Enjoying the Vernon weather

It’s the north it snows believe it or not it snows every year around this time of year if your not ready for winter I suggest moving to Hongcouver or points south where snow isn’t an issue.

Hey ,,, you sound like the City guy in charge of the snow clearing ….. “wait till spring … it will melt away”

….. afterwards we get to drive on rutted frozen streets that froze after they partially melted …..

….. as long as the City pays for the damage they are causing to the cars, I really do not care … it might be cheaper from them to fix the cars than plow the street …. LOL

I grew up in Ottawa and keep saying everytime I read some of these idiotic suggestions that people in PG do not know how to deal with winter weather. Half are from the south that does not get serious winter and the other half is from the prairies where it is cold but very little snow. In fact, they put up snow fences in some places so that they actually get to measure snow depth. …. :-)

Actually I have seen this here about 2 or 3 times in the last 40 years ….

On opinion 250 the year only has 2 seasons.
Whiny pot-hole season and snivler snow removal season.

We get to drive on potty roads in summer and ruddy roads in winter. Thanks Mayor Green! The roads today are in terrible shape and if we get some rain those ruddy and wash board roads will become dangerous to the good citizens of Prince George. Money for core reviews, money for trips to China, money for council pay raises, where is the money for road maintenance summer and winter?

Ha@middle finger!!! Awesome!

Goode olde Cheetos has it right again. Calls it like it is.

That pulp mill road near the river is some scary stuff right now. Felt like the washboard would send me right into the river.

If you don’t plow the roads then we get to destroy our vehicles. Before you post – think you twits !

We live out in Miworth and Otway Road is rougher then the gravel hunting roads we drove on this fall, YRB is up to their old tricks of not plowing until they get complaints so for god sake people start complaining. Call Lara and let her know so hopefully we won’t have to put up with it for another winter. YRB says the are doing what the contract requires.
