Is it a case of poor roads or a case of ” I have 4 wheel drive so I don’t have to drive slower!”
Harleyguy you hit the nail on the head. Lots of people think that because they have a 4 wheel drive they are invincible.
Got news for them……yea you might be able to get going from a dead stop quicker but you sure won’t stop any quicker.
Guess I can add this here ……..
Hey dude with the brand new red Dodge Mega Cab with matching canopy. Nice to see you being safe and taking it easy on the bypass today but next time if you are going to travel 30 KMH you could move over into the right lane. It would have made it a lot safer for the rest of us :)
Same ole thing…blame it on the roads. Or the driver can take responsibilty that he or she tried to beat the grader in the intersection. Ya right. Come on drivers slow down…we all know the roads are full of snow and ice build up underneith.
That’s a lot of damage. I seriously hope that whomever was injured will make a full recovery.
That said, I find it a little amusing that they found a piece of City snow clearing equipment to run into.
Haha, those minivan drivers are the worst ones on the road. Hopefully the driver will have learned something today.
Wow. looks like there must have been a number of witness’s and they all post on Opinion 250. Go figure.
I came up and over University hill around 3:30 pm, fighting freezing rain the whole way – road was very slick and it was a struggle to see out the frozen windshield. I can believe it was very slippery in other areas of the city and accidents were bound to happen.
I have good, studded tires, and had to go slow to stay on the road. Speed is the biggest problem, in my experience.
That appears to be a minivan, not a 4×4.
And yes, it’s not the road’s fault, or the weather’s fault for that matter. It’s the driver.
Take another look people, It’s a 90’s Ford Explorer and most certainly 4 wheel drive.
All driver error here, hope the driver learned a lesson from this.
billyinpg, they actually do stop quicker! Smashing into a city grater must have been a damn quick stop ;).
It’s a shame that this happens every year.. would be nice to go 24 hours after the first snow fall without witnessing an accident almost every hour :( a downside to delivery driving I suppose..
Drive safe PG, we get this every year… we should all know to slow down! If not for your safety, then please don’t hurt other people that are trying to get from A to B safely. Thanks
Good stuff everyone.
Tried and convicted in 4 hours and 23 minutes….only on Crank 250
At least we know where they were clearing snow today. I thought maybe all the snow clearing crews were retired.
Sieg,
No they don’t. Period. I’ve driven a 4wd for 30 years and they stop or do not stop any better than anything else. if anything they will stop worse due to the weight associated with them.
Add in a lift and the bigger tires (which is how I rolled) and it gets worse.
If anything you have to be ten fold more responsible when driving like that when the snow flies.
There had been another accident there earlier. There were two tow trucks one had loaded a flat deck that had the drivers door caved in. With all the lights flashing and slippery roads as they were with freezing rain probably was a cause for the later one. Come over the hill and watch out there are all the vehicles on the side of the road. Maybe the previous accident scene should have had signs out.
SUV”Severely Underestimated Vehicle” (Just add severely over confident driver…
I don’t feel sorry for these drivers that most likely are not driving for road conditions..I feel bad for their white knuckled passengers though.
When your driving down the road and what ever is falling out of the sky freezes on your windshield,it`s freezing on the ground also.(just in case some folks don`t understand)
Did any of you witness this accident if you didn’t don’t judge you might be next do you want them to judge you. Do to others as you want them to do to you.
Jem: Years ago I wish I had made up bumper stickers that read “DRIVE much?”. I could have probably slapped a hundred on 4x4s that I have seen in the ditches or accidents in the last couple of years. pretty well all at the event of the first snowfalls.
Really wonder why that is?
