Slow down in bad weather folks. No matter how you drive you don’t want to become a statistic…..
Brrrr still -13 Maybe the weather icon is frozen. Well I guess we get to see all the fine Liberal comercials they are putting on TV for all the fine work they have done in the past. Is there an election coming up?
Chastising Canadian households for their high levels of debt is a favoured past time of economists and policymakers in this country. But a new report from BMO Capital Markets argues that more of the chastising should be focused at government debt.
âIn the past two yearsâwhen the hectoring of households began in earnestâpublic sector debt has risen much more notably than household debt,â said Douglas Porter, deputy chief economist of BMO Capital Markets.
Canadian government debt has risen much faster than household debt since 2008

Wow big earthquake on Haida Gwaii, Huricane Sandy on the east coast. Is it all coming to point to the big day on Dec 21st.
While there may be no-doubt that driving too fast in winter is dangerous, driving timid..er…I mean slow and carefully is No better.
The level of traction in all seasons but winter allows timid drivers to become even worse.
They have no-idea how their vehicle will react when sliding. Either around a corner or approaching a stop. They can’t change lanes and cross the center windrow between lanes without causing a major bottleneck as they can’t maintain speed and blend in.
Oh and FYI: While the Big 4×4 may not be able to speed everywhere in icy conditions, they are much safer to drive and stop just fine.
FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!
Vulgar, who are you in real life, Rebecca Black?
Styxxx
sorry you have to inconvenienced by people driving to the conditions.
Ya,I honestly don`t think anythings going to happen 21/12/12 other than a solar storm, basically a tidal wave from space…I just wouldn`t buy a new computer or any electronics for an Xmas present at least until we know the extent, unless the warranty covers exposure to micro waves.
In short all clocks would stop and have to be reset ergo ushering in a new time period, thus the ending of the Mayan calendar and the beginning of another 5,125 year cycle.
On a good note if all the politicians, world leaders and world elite lock themselves in an underground shelter this will be our chance to rid the world of them for ever by sealing them in there…

I couldn’t have said it better myself. There are people driving out there that can’t seem to travel anywhere near the posted speed limit even on a bright warm day in July, throw a cold wintry day at them and they become overwhelmed, however, they still seem to feel the urge to get out and drive.
A big trend I’ve seen since the snow flew is the people who can’t seem to know where to drive without being able to see the lines on the road. A few days ago there was a person crawling up Peden hill uning both lanes. They got to the top where you add in a double left turn lane and yup they too up both of those too, used both lanes on Domano all the way home I presume.
Too slow and timid is just as dangerous as anything else.
“Wow big earthquake on Haida Gwaii, Huricane Sandy on the east coast. Is it all coming to point to the big day on Dec 21st.”
My 15 year old is convinced that the end is coming.
Haida Gwaii Hot Spring seem to have dried up after the earthquake.

People have been predicting the end of the earth about as long as there have been people around.
Albus: What does “driving to the conditions” mean?
Such an abstract term that invokes ICBC brain dead slogans like “speed-Kills”.
Don’t you really mean DRIVE WITHIN YOUR OWN CAPABILITIES?
I am quite confident to drive in a blizzard from Fort St. John to Fort Nelson (400kms) with only two places to stop and get fuel. Done it many times, as I’m sure many other readers have accomplished similar.
We would be the confident drivers who have not only endured many kilometers driving with a low degree of traction at high speed, but as the law of averages dictates, have had instances where we had to exercise control over a vehicle with almost no control.
I would hazard a guess that there are many drivers, who, while never daring to venture out too far from town in inclement weather,as they may place themselves at risk with their limited driving skills, nevertheless depend on the avoidance skills and undying patience of more experienced drivers in-town to keep them from hurting themselves as well as others.
Driving side by side doing 35 Kph is absolutely ridiculous. Stay home or learn how to drive.
20 drivers going down Ospika single file. One dope changes lanes and prevents anyone from getting past the horde of incompetence!
Climbing the hill, fighting for traction when the car in front decides its time to slow down even more, forcing me to drop another gear, lose that precious little bit of traction I had. So now I’m spun out on the hill , forced into having to pull the chains. Hell of a situation… Thanks for all the extra stress and work. That guy behind you in the big truck isn’t trying to tailgate, just wants to not spin out. Hey moron, don’t suddenly let off the gas halfways up the hill!
“Driving side by side doing 35 Kph is absolutely ridiculous”
You are going too fast in a school zone … slow down!!! … and remember do not pass in a school zone……
;-)
Soon the HST will be EXTINGUISHED along with the full contingent of liberals that made this the most expensive place on earth. Will be soooo funny to see all these useless HST lovers thrown out of office. Just wait a few more weeks shirley. WE THE PEOPLE are fed up with you and all your campbell lackies. Only 6 more months of having to pay HST. Everyone should stay home this xmas and don’t buy anything. Would be great to starve them out for the season. That’s what I will be doing or else if I do buy something, it will be from somewhere other then here in BC. After next may I can eat in a restaurant again. I have not been in one here since june 2010. Looking forward to that anyway. Enjoy your last weeks ripping people off lieberals. SOON we will fire all of you.
All this bickering about bad drivers is reminiscent of something I read here yesterday. :)
No one, and I mean no one, is willing to admit that they’re a bad driver.
Speaking of driving. How is it that the city can build a new subdivision without putting in proper turn lanes to access it? This is dangerous and will only be fixed once a life has been lost.
Remember the Jenson subdivision??!!
Now the subdivision I’m talking about is the new one on Tyner. People come cruising down the hill doing 80 km/h and all of a sudden everyone is stopped in front of you because they are waiting for oncoming traffic before turning left.
The city should not be allowed to start new building without the proper infrastructure in place.
In this case turn lanes!!!

The most expensive place on earth? Good grief.
I get a kick out of the truck drivers passing another tuck using the passing lane then staying neck and neck and barely making the pass before the passing lane ends. This is while holding up all of the traffic that could get by safely. These truck drivers are professional drivers, go figure.
I’ve got nothing to gripe about! The most annoying part of my day is reading all the negativity that passes for commentary. So, life is okay! ;)

Balboa…. You have no idea what truck drivers put up with everyday. You have never driven a truck before have you? Was that you on the hill in front of me?
PGs population has been stagnant since the 1970s according to some…so why are they building new subdivisions then??
Lets see….how many accidents were in the news this year that had rigs involved in them? Quite a few I seem to recall. Listening to some obvious truck drivers on here certainly clarifys why this is the case. Apparently some of them don’t want to slow down or they may have to put chains on to combat the icy conditions. Yep, if its icy out, speed up, no wonder only a select few qualify for being truckers. Reminds me of a joke I heard a long time ago….imagine this being told in a southern drawl of the illiterate…
“Six months ago I cudnt evin spell truck driver..now I are one..hyuk hyuk”
Hummer: “Now the subdivision I’m talking about is the new one on Tyner. People come cruising down the hill doing 80 km/h and all of a sudden everyone is stopped in front of you because they are waiting for oncoming traffic before turning left.”
The speed limit is 70, so if you are going 80, you are going too fast. Ok, ok, so 10 k over isn’t a big deal, but wait a minute, ther is ample signage indiating the speed limit changes to 50 well before the turn off to that residntial area. If you are paying attention and following the rules of the road, this shouldn’t be an issue. Having said that, I drive this stretch several times a day and find it annoying to have a beautiful stretch with a speed limit of 70 broken up. It’s going to get worse as it appears there is going to be more and more development along there.
axman: “No one, and I mean no one, is willing to admit that they’re a bad driver”
Nice to see you admit that you will never admit that you might be a bad driver ;) And you are right though, I don’t know anyone who will admit to this, including myself. I just figure I’ve never had an accident in my 35 years of driving, so I must be doing at least okay.
This might be a stupid question, and it is just a question: if a big ass truck is having difficulty controling themselves among traffic on a slippery hill, shouldn’t you have chains on in the first place in anticipation of the potential risks out there? I would think if the roads are bad, it would be reasonable to assume there is someone out there driving who peraps shouldn’t be, or isn’t comfortable with the conditions yet. Why would you put the responsibility of the control of your vehicle on someone else?
I do have to stick up for the truck drivers a bit, albeit I am not one. I do know alot of them and most of the oblivious car drivers have no idea of the torture they put them through. If they leave space so they can run at a hill some moron will see the hole and cut into it… then the next moron will be mad because they cannot go up the hill fast enough… the circle of life lol. We live in an industrial part of the world, trucks will be there – relax and get over it…
Mattyc – you have zero right to complain about the government while you flaunt your ability to avoid paying your share of taxes…
Have a great weekend everyone, drive safe :)
Boy if life was as bad as some people on here make it sound, we should not be living in Canada. Maybe some of these people should move to where we don’t experience winter and all of its driving issues. Main thing to remember is that you are not the only one on the road, drive considerately, anticipate problems and then manage them appropriately when they crop up.
Pet peeve of the day for me?
The people that inhabit certain radio channels (lad 3,4 ) and conduct long, meaningless conversations liberally sprinkled with language they would not use if their Mother was present.
Two comments on that:
A) you’re hogging the frequency
B) there used to be an unwritten code of conduct regarding the use of expletives when using a two way radio, what happened?
Do some ‘professional’ drivers/operators lack a functioning vocabulary?
Have a nice day and a great week end.
metalman.
Jim: “PGs population has been stagnant since the 1970s according to some…so why are they building new subdivisions then?? “
Fewer people in homes on average. Kids grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and bought their own homes, leaving their parents in their orginal home (for example).
bonneville, everyone puts up with a lot of stuff everyday, not just truckers. If I was in front of you I wouldn’t have been there very long as I like to stay in the clear and as far as possible away from rigs on the road.
One of the chip hauling companies will be hiring truckers from Ireland.. Will be interesting.
Speachless “The speed limit is 70, so if you are going 80, you are going too fast. Ok, ok, so 10 k over isn’t a big deal, but wait a minute, ther is ample signage indiating the speed limit changes to 50 well before the turn off to that residntial area.”
You are correct. However as we all know, not everyone does the speed limit so there will be some doing 80. And changing speed down from 70 to 50 doesn’t always happen. The average driver may be going faster than 50 for a while as they slow down to the posted change.
However, even at 50, Tyner is a busy road. It is not a street, it is a (almost) main thoroughfare. You said it yourself, “Having said that, I drive this stretch several times a day”, you drive this section of road on a regular business.
THIS ROAD IS TOO BUSY TO NOT HAVE PROPER INFRASTRUCTURE (in this specific case turn lanes) BUILT ON IT!!
IT IS NOT SAFE!!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH CITY HALL? THIS IS POOR CITY PLANNING!!
Yes, the constant whine on the Lad channels. Radio soap opera.
I have enjoyed reading the various posts on the driving habits of some and the concerns expressed about the people using the Hart Highway not staying to the right except to pass. About a month ago, having a free hour on a Saturday I decided to drive the Hart as I seldom go out there. I drove the posted speed limit in the right hand lane all the way to North Kelly and back. The posted speeds are either 60 or 70 kph. There are exactly 2 signs each way that say slower traffic to keep right and 1 sign each way that says to keep right except to pass. One thing I discovered is that it is rare for anyone to be doing the posted speed limit. I was passed by all kinds of vehicles when I was doing the posted speed including a man on a bicycle. :) When I consider the various viewpoints expressed about driving the Hart, I think it all boils down to drivers wanting to drive however fast they want without the bother of obeying the posted speed or having consideration of other drivers. If you just want to speed, regardless of what the posted speed is, just “man up” and say so, don’t dress it up by complaining about others not keeping to the right. Have a great Friday and weekend.
Sorry Hummer, we are going to have to agree to disagree here. It is not unsafe becuase the city didn’t build a turning lane, it is unsafe if people are speeding. And if someone is doing 80 in a 50, then they are breaking the law and are the ones putting others in danger and should be taken off the road. I’d love to see radar set up there nailing people. And there is signage that the limit is about to change, and signage to indicate it has changed. There is plenty of vision to see if someone is turning. There is no reason someone cannot slow down in time.
I agree turning lanes would be nice, but I don’t agree that it is unsafe, if people would just follow the rules. Oh but people don’t follow the rules, you say? That’s probably true, but do my tax dollars have to pay for infrastructure to accomodate these law breakers?
Why do people constantly continue to do as they please, when they please, regardless of the laws and expect others to accomodate them so that they can continue to do so? There is just zero personal accountability anymore, it’s always someone else’s fault.
Had an interresting morning last Monday Two city workers in a city truck went door to door in my neighborhood telling people to move their vehicles off the street as the grader and plows were coming in a few minutes. Well today is Friday, and we haven’t seen hide nor hair of any snow removal equipment. Is this a make work project for our city workers? I think our money could be spent much more wisely.
Matty C
Revenue Canada catch up to you yet?
Your the biggest hypocrite on this site.
Whine about the HST then readily admit you only work for cash under the table. Call the Liberals scam artists? Did you learn from them or did you teach them.
Everyone have a great weekend! except Matty C of course.
bonneville says Balboa…. You have no idea what truck drivers put up with everyday.
So bonneville is that you…driving a semi and trying to pass another? I agree with Balboa. Use your head and let traffic go. You’re probably the one that drag races down the so called bypass with other rigs.
I have a class one as well but I have some profressional courtesy.
LOL LOL Mattyc is still the cash only guy. And I do not pay HST. I did not vote for that nor did any other people in BC. I will continue to whine about the HST until it is EXTINGUISHED. Just because there is stupid sheep like you that like paying HST Albus Antiquus Vir, does not mean that I am as stupid as you. And to answer your other question. I learned this myself and from other people that believe in doing everything for cash. The LIE berals are complete amatures at this. So I would not have learned anything from them. And besides I do happen to have principals I follow in life. No way I would teach them anything. Better to train others to do the same thing, and believe me there is many many people doing it.
Soon the HST will be EXTINGUISHED. Along with all the liberals that lied to the people and rammed this down our throats. Very soon the time will be up for these scum.
mattyc,
I know allot of very intelligent people, I guess it takes people like you to balance them out.
Oh and by the way matty, I dont pay HST, I recover it, unlike the cheaters like yourself, I run a business, report my income and gladly use the HST rebates to my advantage. All legal, all above board, I don’t have to worry about a knock on my door.
Since you have supposedly figured out how not to pay HST, mattyc, you are simply spouting off at the BCLiberals because you do not like them. Itr has nothing to do with the HST, since we will be back to paying the GST and PST next spring. If you are not paying the HST by using cash, I assume you will keep that practice going and not paying GST (which everyone in the country pays, even Albertans) and PST.
So tell me, do you have a business and are not collecting HST, not reporting your sales and thus not submitting your HST intake?
Or are you simply refusing to pay the HST across the counter as you purchase items and the seller is simply acceoting that, resulting in a discount to you and then submits the HST on the discounted transaction?
Tyner is half the road that it is intended to be. It is no different than DOmano was for a while and still is after the Gladstone intersection to Malaspina. That part of Domano is no different than Tyner.
The question I have of the City s at what point will they four lane that road. I assume it will not be for some time. In that case, I would think the major improvement for that road would be street lights.
Gus,
We both know mattyc is full of crap. He buys everything in Alberta he says, so how much fuel does he pack back with him so he doesnt have to buy any in BC till he returns? He is a blow hard, no way he can survive with no purchases in BC. Add to that he is an admitted cheat. A man nobody should respect.
He rants about the Liberals, then himself goes beyond what he claims they have done. A hypocrite at its finest.
mattyc is the O250 version of that old guy on the bike that used to ride around town shouting at cars. Just pay him no mind.
