Yesterday’s Highway 16 Crash Claims Second Life

Tuesday, November 6, 2012 @ 2:24 PM

Prince George, B.C.- A Prince George female is the second person to have died from  injuries sustained in yesterday’s crash on highway 16  near Fraser Lake.

The crash occurred when the driver of a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, with two occupants, crossed the centre line into the path of an eastbound Toyota Tercel, with one occupant.  After colliding with the Toyota, the Jeep Cherokee was pushed back and into the path of an eastbound  commercial truck/ trailer unit, which was following the Toyota Tercel.   The eastbound commercial truck and trailer was then struck from behind by an eastbound commercial crane unit.

The male driver of the Toyota Tercel, a resident of Fraser Lake, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The two  female occupants of the Jeep Cherokee were both  transported to  hospital in Vancouver, where one of the female’s  succombed to her injuries last night.  The second  female, also critically injured,  remains in stable condition in hospital in Vancouver.
The two females  were related  as mother and daughter and were from Prince George.

The two commercial vehicles had one occupant in each.  There were no injuries to either of the commercial vehicle drivers.

Investigators are looking into a number of considerations, which may have contributed or caused this collision.   Weather, road conditions, distractions and vehicle mechanical condition are amongst the considerations being examined.

So very sad

So very sad

Very sad indeed. I think if we had a three foot center line this never would have happened. Many many many accidents exactly like this up north in the winter because the 1.5-inches between the center line is not enough when the roads are slippery and tight.

IMO we don’t need a Cariboo Connector. What we need is a three foot center line to save lives.

Roads where vehicles pass within feet of each other with closing speeds of at least 120 mph and people just go oh hum, amazing.

watch this vedeo on how fast incidents happen https://www.youtube.com/embed/oFkw5JFOmHk

Seamutt, that is a very sobering video. Every driver should watch it.

The roads were super icy that day!!!!

Seamutt, that is one shocking video. Pretty hard to watch that and then hit the road without using great care! Everyone should watch it, drivers and pedestrians alike.

If I had kids learning to drive I wouldn`t have a problem with them seeing that vid before being issued a drivers license.

Watching that video should be mandatory before any drivers licence is issued?

I agree ervboy, it should be mandatory to watch this before getting a license. It should be part of taking your written test.

seamutt: Thanks for the link. Maybe they should play something like that on their highway displays!

Seems like too many people are in a big hurry to wind up dead or seriously injured.
