Enjoy the frosty Friday everyone!

Can anyone tell me why the city felt the need to plow my street wednesday? We hear all this talk of snow removal budget run out or not enough but its ok for this grader to basically drag his blade on ashphalt down my street? And the city is looking for ways to save money. Hello! (waveing and pointing)

…lets talk about the people that live and work in prince george but don’t pay their fair share of property taxes. They live in illegal suites……. this seams to be an untapped financial resource for our city… we pay their portion of property taxes and the landlords pocket the extra cash.

“The BC jobs plan, Canada starts here”.

I thought BC was on the left coast. Doesn’t Canada end here ?

Agreed! Property taxes should be based on the number of people living in the premises over 18. Or they could double the property taxes of the landlords who own these illegal suites.

Lol middle finger, most people read from left to right. So when you look at a map Canada starts with BC. But wait a sec the earth spins counter clockwise from the North Pole reference then Canada starts with New Foundland. But from the South Pole the earth spins clockwise….

Why does Northern Health advertise on the ice at the SpuceKings games and are we paying for it?

Then who greases the equator ?

Sorry retyred, the landlord does in most cases pay his fair share of property taxes. Your complaints about illegal suites would be better addressed to revenue canada. They take rather dim view of tax evasion big time. I might mention that when property owners only were allowed to vote in civic elections we had much better bylaw enforcement and way better elected officials.

Holy crap, Birdman! You must be getting a tad long in the tooth if you’ve been around long enough to recall a time when only land holders could vote. But, ah yes, aren’t things always better in the good ol’ days? Isn’t it funny the way memory works?

Congrats to the Americans, oops, Washingtonians, on having the good sense to elect Obama again instead a religious wacko chamelian. Hopefully this makes a positive difference.

Happy long weekend to one and all!

How can it make a “positive difference” when it is the same guy? Is he going to take ownership of his presidency anytime soon, or does blaming Bush for another 4 years work for you too?

Spare me the mantra that Bush left a big mess. At some point Barry is going to have to accomplish something since he agreed to take on the job.

Care to tell me ONE plank of the Democratic platform?

Wowwww Reading all the comments make me feel like I was reading stuff bout back when the war was happening…hehehe Soooo nice to be young

Support our troops…bring them home and don’t send them to fight any more of American battles.
Does anyone else think it is a mockery of World War One’s dead to wear the poppy? That was supposed to be the “war to end all wars” yet we still are fighting all over the planet. Until wars end, I won’t mock the dead by pretending they did not die in vain.

I disagree with the comments about illegal suites. The government turns a blind eye simply because there is not enough AFFORDABLE HOUSING to go around. Most people that live in illegal suites live there because of financial reasons. They are single parents, students etc….

Keywords here are AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

What’s up with all the government tv ads lately?? Wise up and spend the money on the poor and elderly and quit trying to sell me your koolaid!!

Can someone please explain to me what the media’s infatuation with Justin Trudeau is all about? He in no way can be compared to Pierre Elliot Trudeau except in ancestry. Pierre woke up the political scene in Canada at the time; he was “hot” as it’s put now, and he was available (single). About the only thing different about Justin that I can see so far is that he is young, and that might be a good thing for the apathetic twentysomethings.

Did anyone else notice how the gas stations in Prince George milked us this week by slowly dropping the price by a cent a day? When the price goes up they sure don’t give us a break by easing it in slowly. Pardon the expression, but we really are getting screwed by the gas companies.

Re: gas prices, oil companies don’t care whether we believe we are being gouged or not. They know you need their product. End of story.

Went up to the “new and improved” CHP a couple weeks ago and was really disappointed. Used to go there occasionally and that was my last time there. Not sure what he was thinking???

Younger crowd drinks more but there are more older folks out there. Will never go back either.

Okay we have all this energy, oil, cheap natural gas, electricity still cheap compared to most of what the world pays but rising thanks to the payoffs, subsidies and extremely high contracts to IPP,s by the libs. So why are we exporting it? Entice multinationals to come here to take advantage of out abundant and cheap energy instead of shipping it out.

Thanks to the feds using our soldiers to play on the world stage then once finished with them giving them dumping them in the trash. A real class act. Next election I will remember.

People complain about Bush and his running of the country, well Obama will make him look like a rank amateur in destroying the US economy. Notice how Wallstreet declined after the election. His misguided energy policies are resulting in manufacturing leaving in droves.

Turn out for remembrance day everyone, feds stay away you are not welcome.

lbear, Justin Trudeau its all about the hair.

Oh Ibear I for got to add, the left leaning liberal media is in desperate need of a faked hero. Substance not required.

The problems with the US economy had its roots before Obama was first elected as president. It was rooted in the failure of the US banking system and their sub-par mortgage fiasco. In fact, Obama was put in the position of having little choice about forking over 700 billion dollars to help resolve the problem. That payment was set up by Bush. It was the Banks failure which led to any Wall Street decline, not Obama’s policies, which don’t appear to be well implemented. I must say that I am quite disappointed in him. Still, its not my country.

Brownshoe, I can understand if Northern Health advertises about some of their services, diseases, programs, etc. but when the advertisement just reads Northern Health, I agree, it doesn’t make sense to spend healthcare dollars on that.

I left a message for the snow removal department at the City about the amount of snow on our street (we are in the Hart area) and how it was dangerous to walk in the neighborhood because the snow was deep, heavy and slushy. The crew did not show up to clear the streets until after the melt, when all the snow had pretty much gone. We too had our bare streets scraped by a grader (or whatever they use).

I don’t understand why the City didn’t remove all the build-up of snow on major streets when it was soft and melting. Now we have frozen-hard hills of ice in the middle of some of our heavy-traffic streets. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and that we all remember to take some time on Sunday to remember those who fought for our country.

Hummer….”I disagree with the comments about illegal suites. The government turns a blind eye simply because there is not enough AFFORDABLE HOUSING to go around. Most people that live in illegal suites live there because of financial reasons. They are single parents, students etc….”

they are still using our resources and need to pay their share…people that have no kids still have to pay school taxes..right….time to get everyones shoulder to the plow!

Funny you mention CHP that was my fav pub in town, and I feel like it is ruined now.

I think they should make the area with the garage doors inside the old CHP and put a sign there saying OLD CHP and turn off that crappy music.

Funny money?? Why does the Canadian Mint keep popping out new coins? Sometimes I look at my change and it looks like funny money of some kind. They must be spending a fortune retooling every time they put out a different coin???

OH my God… Grader was grading Campbell / Morgan Cres… pushing the 3 inch wide strip off the gutter. Rest of the street was clear…. Yet other streets aren’t touched…

Here’s a hmmmmm? This morning approximately 1100 the building where I work on Ogilvie Street had to be evacuated for what appeared/smelled like a gas leak. The Fire Department was called, entire building evacuated, the vehicles had to be moved as quickly as possible – very timely and efficient service by the Fire Department. However, they determined that it was not in fact a gas leak but Fortis – next door – had had a chemical spill of the product that they put in the gas to make it smell so a leak is detected and THEY NEVER REPORTED IT TO ANYONE!!! especially the “neighbours.” Should that not be a requirement and need some investigation? Just sayin……
Remember all who have fallen for us on November 11th Lest We Forget.

Gotta say it’s nice knowing we have another four years without our neighbours to the south picking a fight with anyone. Ever notice how whenever a Republican get’s into office they need to get into a conflict with some country?

Mitt? I thought a mitt what what you wore on your hand (Oh Oh you wear puppet’s on your hands too! Oh Oh) see what I did there? Cute…lol

So now maybe given the public approval Mr. Obahma will be able to turn the US economic bus around. His administration didn’t create the issue the US people are facing. That’s courtesy of the Bush war president (that’s his words not mine).

North of the border: My thanks goes out to the thousands of service people in the Canadian Armed Forces past and present. Without there commitment to our country, we would not be able to sit here as we do and enjoy the liberties we do now. Lest We Forget. 11:11 11/11/2012 1 minute

I noticed those Canadian Tire ads on TV about them financing car repairs interest free over the year. How nice. Taking yer near new car or truck in for over priced and HST added replacement parts and $100 dollar or more an hour labour rates I can see why. $800 dollars, $1200 and even a lot more dough makes it an extreme effort for most indebted motorists to pull all that dough out of a hat. All can say is it’s a sign of the times. Alas!

Just wait until Costco opens their gas bar….amazing what it’s done for this area

Professional:-“Ever notice how whenever a Republican get’s into office they need to get into a conflict with some country?”
——————————————-
Lets look at the record over the last 100 years :-

Teddy Roosevelt, Republican, no war.

William H Taft, Republican, no war.

Woodrow Wilson, Democrat, World War One. US comes out of it as world’s foremost ‘creditor’ country. Other Allies bankrupted, or mired hopelessly with huge debts (Great Britain).

Warren G Harding, Republican, no war.

Calvin Coolidge, Republican, no war.

Herbert Hoover, no war.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Democrat, World War Two. After which Great Britain is no longer “great”, having lost everything it managed to retain after World War One.

Harry Truman, Democrat, Korean War.

Dwight D Eisenhower, Republican, no war.

John F Kennedy, Democrat, start of America’s war in Viet Nam after American arranged deposition of South Viet Namense Buddhist Emperor, Bao Dai, and his replacement with Roman Catholic President; and to the brink of full scale thermo-nuclear war with USSR over Cuba.

Lyndon B Johnson, Democrat, further escalation of war in Viet Nam, with no end in sight, and for whatever real purpose no one seemed to know, or at least wanted to talk about. Kept economy going in quest for “full-employment” at home anyways. For awhile. Inflation begins to be an increasing problem.

Richard M. Nixon, Republican, ended war in Viet Nam after escalating it to get Communist opponents to bargaining table. Normalised relations with China, detente with Soviet Union. Starts to try to control inflation. Fails to.

Gerald Ford, Republican, no war.

Jimmy Carter, Democrat, couldn’t wage war against Iran over American hostages after pre-decessor, Richard Nixon, Republican, ended the military draft and created an all-volunteer military. US economy in terrible shape throughout Carter Presidency, but no stomach for war as a cure after Viet Nam.

Ronald Reagan, Republican, military build-up helped economy, ended Cold War and finished off Soviet Union without resorting to war.

George H W Bush, Republican, Gulf War against Iraq over its seizure of Kuwait. Stopped short of full-scale victory and deposition of Saddam Hussein. US casualties minimal. Not much of a war, so far as wars go.

Bill Clinton, Democrat, benefited enough from the military build up initiated by Ronald Reagan that he was the first DEMOCRAT in the whole 20th Century that didn’t have to resort to a full scale war to keep the American economy functional.

George W Bush, Republican, Afghanistan and Iraq invasions. FIRST Republican in 100 years to initiate a full scale war, but only after large scale supposed ‘Muslim’ terrorist attack on US homeland.

Barack Obama, Democrat, 4 years to go yet. But lots of the same kind of economic problems other DEMOCRAT Presidents have usually ended up going to war to try to solve (defer).

The record seems to show something different than the common perception.

socredible, you missed some points.
Nixon: “enemies of the White House list”; Watergate.
Regan: de-regulation of banks ( in 2008-9)
Clinton: blocked by Republican House from getting Bin Laden; 423 billion surplus
Bush: tax cuts for Big Business, (which re-locates to China),; trashes the US economy spending trillions chasing Weapons of Mass destruction; establishes China as the main US banker. As Jack Knox in the Times Colonist noted about the 2012 campaign:

The Republicans, meanwhile, acted as though their most-recent president, George W. Bush, didn’t exist – something like the 13th floor of an office building or the drunken one-night stand that both parties pretend never happened. This is the legacy when you drive the economy into the ditch while looking for weapons of mass destruction in the rear-view mirror.

Obama: inherited the worst mess left by any out-going president. General Motors alive, Bin Laden not. Blocked
by a Republican House from really putting his plans in place in his first term.
