Hartley Miller’s Slap-Shots- November 9, 2012

Friday, November 9, 2012 @ 3:45 AM

Doggone it ! The following is not meant to bark up the wrong tree.

So, Who let the dogs out ? Apparently it was the Cats.

In hopes of boosting sagging attendance, the Prince George Cougars, for the first time, will host Dog Night at CN Centre Saturday when they entertain (no, not the U of Saskatchewan “Huskies”) the Edmonton Oil Kings. There is no truth to the rumour Michael Vick has been offered the chance to become the honorary MC.

“This is a new promotion that we’ve wanted to try for a long time,” said Prince George Cougars Vice President, Brandi Brodsky. “The evening should be a ton of fun for all families with dogs, and all dog-lovers in general.”
With the theme introduced, let the fun begin.

From Marc Ragovin:   “This will be the largest gathering of dogs in a hockey arena since last season’s Toronto Maple Leafs team photo shoot.”

“I guess it won’t just be the coaches who’ll be barking at the refs.”

From Janice Hough:   “I am thinking if the Cougars are really having dog night they should invite A-Rod.”

From Torben Rolfsen: “Looking forward to O Canada performed by the Baha Men.”
“Can’t believe they beat the Phoenix Coyotes to this promotion.”

“Fans at the game are urged to pick up after their pets with the supplied Gary Bettman glove bags.”

From Derek Wilken:     “Patrons are reminded this is a BYOB event: Bring Your Own Bag.”

“The teams will play using NHL rules of the 1920’s and bring back the Rover.”
“The team is trying to get famous dogs to attend like Lassie, Rin Tin Tin or Lil Bow Wow.”
“It will be a nice change to see puppies begging for attention instead of female Cougars.

Fans who bring their dog to the game will sit in Section P and all dogs will receive free admission and their own seat. All dogs will certainly wag their tail to that generous offer.
By the way, I am guessing that fire hydrants will also be supplied in Section P.

Now here are more paw marks about man’s best friend.

From TC Chong:       “Why section “P”? The dogs should be in section K row 9, and pit bulls behind the penalty box if they desire.”

“Ok, I’ll have 2 beers, 2 burgers and 4 Milk Bones. What? there’s a limit of 2 Milk Bones per person?”

“Be sure to have your paw stamped if you need to leave the arena for a nature break.”

From Bill Littlejohn:    “At the PG Cougars’ ‘Salute to Service Dogs Night’, fans will see a demonstration by a service dog when he guides a Cougar to the opposing goal."

From RJ Currie:         “The Cougars want dogs to attend because they have been on and arf this season.”
“Let’s hope this game gives the Cougars a new leash on life.”
“What’s the game plan? Dump and fetch?”
“Suggestion for a guest coach? Lindy Rrruff.”
In conclusion:

This may not be the dog days of summer, but certainly of fall.
The event is proof that every dog has its day.
Husbands and dads are more than welcome to attend if they need to get out of the doghouse.
This new promotion certainly dispels the myth that you can never teach an old dog new tricks.
Perhaps  allowing  fans to bring their dogs will  turn the team’s fortunes from wags to  riches.
When it comes to promotional ideas, this one really   makes you paws to think about  it.
And

The good news with the game indoors at CN Centre, fans will not have to worry if it rains CATS and DOGS.
