Prince George, B.C. – Remembrance Day will be marked with two ceremonies in Prince George Sunday.
The first gathering to honour those who served and fell in war takes place at the Civic Centre. Those planning to take part are asked to be seated no later than 9 a.m. to accommodate all who are attending. The ceremony begins at 9:30 with speakers addressing the crowd while pictures of veterans are displayed in an on-screen presentation. Following the speeches approximately 100 wreaths will be laid at a small cenotaph inside the civic centre. This indoor laying of wreaths is for the veterans who are too old to take in the elements in the outdoor ceremony.
The parade to the cenotaph at City Hall is scheduled to begin at 10:45 am. War veterans, Legionaires, the Rockey Mountain Rangers army reserve unit, cadets, RCMP, emergency services, volunteer firefighters and service club members will all take part. Last post is played at 11 o’clock, followed by two minutes’ silence. The speeches of dignitaries will be followed by the laying of wreaths.
At the conclusion of the ceremony at City Hall, those in the parade will march down 6th Avenue to Brunswick and then down 7th. The salute will be given in front of the Royal Canadian Legion, with General Bury, Deputy Commander of Land Forces, West on hand, along with local MPs and MLAs. Following the salute the parade makes its way to the Civic Centre for dismissal.
