Prince George, B.C. – A mobile home in the West Lake area went up in flames Saturday afternoon and there wasn’t much anyone could do except watch it burn.

Prince George RCMP were called out to the fire near the West Lake Estates early Saturday afternoon. They found the mobile home fully engulfed but had to ascertain that there was no one home at the time when it was found that there was no vehicle in the yard. And there was no fire department to call because the area in question has no fire coverage.

Police found neighbours using garden hoses to try and keep the flames from spreading to a shed, outbuildings and nearby trees. But at one point officers had to step in and tell everyone to get back a safe distance because live ammunition rounds started going off in the fire.

Fortis Gas and B.C. Hydro workers attended the site to shut off the appropriate services. And the police officers who handled the situation were able to leave the scene once the B.C. Forest Service arrived.

Cause of the fire is not known, nor is an estimate of the damage.

There are a lot of people living in the West Lake/Blackwater area….don’t they have a volunteer fire department?

That is a sad picture. One can only imagine the emotions of coming back to your house and seeing it (and everything in it) gone.

Very sad indeed. Hope there were no people or pets inside. Any word yet from the owners?
