Cougars Fall 4-2 in Rematch With Edmonton.
Saturday night in Prince George, the Cougars dropped a 4-2 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Michael St. Croix and Dylan Wruck each recorded three points for Edmonton who erased a 2-1 deficit to earn the victory. The Cougars got their offense from Tanner Lishchynsky and Jarrett Fontaine while goaltender Mac Engel made 31 saves on 34 shots faced in goal.
The Prince George Cougars got off to an excellent start when Tanner Lishchynsky opened the scoring on a beautiful backhand shot that went over the left shoulder of Tristan Jarry. For Lishchynsky it was his first ever WHL goal, with Carson Bolduc and Michael Mylchreest assisting.
Just over 10 minutes later, the Oil Kings tied it when David Musil beat Mac Engel on a shot from the high slot area. For Musil it was his third of the year with Michael St. Croix and Dylan Wruck assisting.
Late in the first, Prince George grabbed momentum back when Jarrett Fontaine took a Zach Pochiro pass, skated wide on his defender and then rifled a shot up high on Tristan Jarry. Fontaine’s first of the season gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead at the end of 20 minutes.
Early in the second, the Cougars appeared to have made it 3-1 when Raymond Grewal knocked home a loose puck on a power play, but the goal was immediately waived off. The officials claimed that Chase Witala had made contact with Tristan Jarry in his goal crease.
The controversial disallowed goal kept the game at 2-1, and at the 8:48 mark, Dylan Wruck capitalized off a defensive zone turnover to even the game at two.
In the final minute of the second, the Oil Kings took the lead when Henrik Samuelsson placed a pass right onto the stick of Keegan Lowe who pinched from the point. Lowe beat Mac Engel with a backhand shot up high for his second of the season, and Edmonton took a 3-2 lead into the final period.
Colin Jacobs came very close to tying to score at three in the final portion of the third, but shot a puck wide from in close.
Dylan Wruck added an empty-netter to give Edmonton their second consecutive 4-2 victory against the Prince George Cougars.
The Cougars were 0-3 on the power play while Edmonton was unable to capitalize on their lone power play. Edmonton outshot Prince George 35-23.
Prince George will take a 7-10-1-1 record into Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the Vancouver Giants. It marks the first time that these B.C. Division rivals will meet this season. Vancouver currently trails Prince George by six points in the B.C. Division.

cougars were not in the 3rd period due to fatigue…i know we are short players, but conditioning seems to be a persistant problem…alex forsberg was minus 4 and looked extremely uninterestd.
I’m home for the long weekend, and it was great to watch the Cougars play last night. I used to go to about 50% of the games when I resided here.
I don’t get to watch this level of hockey on regular basis any longer because I would rather chew glass then pay money to watch the Vancouver Giants…. unless the Cougars are playing them of course. :-)
It’s such a shame that so few people come out to these games in PG. It’s a hard working and talented young team. If you’re not coming out simply because of your annoyance of ownership, then you’re missing out on some excellent hockey because of your own ego.
If you think it’s too expensive, then save up a few pesos every payday and come once in a while. I’d really hate for PG to lose this team because of a lack of a support.
