Prince George, B.C. – Conservation Officers have placed a trap near a home on Buckingham Rd in the west end of Prince George in an effort to catch a bear that early Sunday morning killed a pet Donkey.
Residents say the Black bear has been in the area for several years, but to their knowledge, has not been a problem other than in a couple of occasions tipping over a garbage can or two.
Early Sunday the pet Donkey which was penned about 100ft away from the family home , was attacked by what conservation officers believe was the bear. The Donkey suffered a broken back and was unable to flee from the bear which some residents have described as “very large”.
The bear then ate part of the carcass and left the scene.
A trap was set Sunday and the conservation officers are hoping they will be able to catch the bear.
The Donkey which was 12 years old had lived at the family’s acreage for the past 11 years.
