Prince George, B.C. – The new contract for 350 members of CUPE local 3799 at UNBC has been ratified.
The local represents administrative staff, inside and outside support staff and English language studies instructors.
The four year agreement provides no wage hike for the first two years, and 2% in each of the third and fourth years.
The wage increases are to be funded through savings found within existing budgets.

The wage increases are to be funded through savings found within existing budgets.” … maybe some of the 100k+/yr management salaries could be cut back a bit to give a little more to the people who actually do the work. Don’t think the management has gone without raises each year.
You are right But on Nov. VPs’ etc and of course the current President have had raises annually.
So do the nay sayers have any idea how the raises of VPs and presidents work? Everyone seems to be against raises for the people that take the risks. As an example, I work in sales in a union shop. If its busy, I do well. If its quiet I can work for minimum wage. The union employees get paid the same whether they can keep up with the phone or if they sit drinking coffee talking about the latest episode of survivor all day. Dont get me wrong, its a choice I have made but I get tired of people complaining about wage increases. You want an increase, assume some risk – thats how it works
“You want an increase, assume some risk – thats how it works”….Not!
You own a company you are in risk reward, I work for a company, I am in reward only.
When the CEO doesn’t need workers, we are the first to go, however, while I am required I will be rewarded.
Supply and demand, works both ways!
“I work for a company, I am in reward only”
I rest my case….
So its all the unions, Yup Yup very simple.
Re: Cutting back management’s wages? NOT! I might mention that if UNBC is anything like CNC, management gets the same new benefits they ‘negotiated’ with the hourlies. More taxpayer money for the ivory tower on the hill…
“I might mention that if UNBC is anything like CNC, management gets the same new benefits they ‘negotiated’ with the hourlies” …BS, management at CNC have not gone without a wage increase for 2 years like the staff there have.
