Family Y Staff Give Back To Kids
The Family Y’s Childcare and Children’s Programming staff donate their time at yesterday’s National Child Day celebrations
Prince George, BC – Tomorrow is National Child Day, but staff at the Prince George Family Y took time out of their weekend to mark the occasion yesterday…
Children and their parents flocked to the facility on Massey Drive for oodles of activities in the gymnasium, and the chance to scale the climbing wall and jungle gym in the Rec Room.
Lorna Grant was standing by to help any little person needing assistance with the modelling dough. Grant spends her weekdays working in the daycare at the Y’s Highland Family Development Centre. She says, "We had lots of families stop by today and lots of busy little hands, which has been fantastic."
"It’s been an awesome day," concurs Shawnie Hayhurst, who works in children’s programming. "It’s been non-stop busy, but it’s been fun."
Hayhurst was working on a ‘custom’ facepaint order for five-year-old Wasim Aka. Wasim is in the Y’s after-school care and was taking advantage of all the free fun yesterday.
A highlight for many of the kids was the inflatable train they could climb through, complete with slide and obstacles inside.
Seven-year-old Jarrett Gascon enjoyed it immensely, posing briefly for a picture, before making his way back to line up for the third time.
