Slick Roads Lead to Multiple Crashes
Tuesday, November 20, 2012 @ 11:29 AM
Prince George, B.C.- It has been a busy morning for RCMP in Prince George, as the overnight snowfall has left the roads in less than ideal condition.
“We have responded to numerous collisions from Bear Lake all the way south to Hixon” says RCMP Media Liaison Corporal Craig Douglass. While City crews have been out ploughing and sanding, there are still sections of roadways that are slick. “We have had several scenarios where there has been a collision and people coming up on that collision haven’t been able to stop in time so they end up slamming into the collision.”
Corporal Douglass says drivers need to slow down, reducing their speed to the conditions at hand, and give emergency vehicles lots of room. He says the only good news so far is that there haven’t been any serious injuries.
This rash of crashes comes on the eve of National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims. National stats show that each year, 6 Canadians will die in crashes every day. So far this year, 1981 people have died on Canadian roadways, there have been nearly 182 thousand injuries.

Yeah, let’s blame the roads for all the stupid people out there behind the wheel.
Hey dude, don’t ya know all season tyres are all ya need for da snow.
don’t need no noisy studs neether.
Worst kept roads I’ve ever seen. Hardly seen any plow trucks on roads this winter. YRB should be replaced and some kind of accountability put on this service.
I have been in and out all morning and the roads are fine . But then again I have winter traction and drive according to the conditions. Making it all over town with ease . I don’t use studs though , not because they are noisy but because they get worn off before the first major snowfall so kind of pointless (no pun intended) if you ask me .

This is another idea that dosent hold water. Studs will only increase your traction on ice buy 7% and on snow they are useless. And tney chew the hell out of pavement.
Cheers
I agree with hillbilly. It seems like winter road maintenance/snow removal has been getting steadily worse with the last 2 recent winters in my memory. This year isn’t showing any signs on improving. Something needs to be done!

Click the following link, Personally, I think it’s scary as hell. If this dosen’t make people think about driving to conditions, nothing will….

Learn to drive or stay home. This is normal around here.
Who thinks some kind of skid course should be mantitory? Obviously, it would not solve anything but I think it would help alot of people get to know their vehicles and the way they handle in certain situations. Maybe it would reduce uthese types of accidents. Also many vehicle now come with electronic skid control. It des seem a bit counter intuitive for those who have driven without it for so long, but I would venture to say that it might have prevented some of the collisions on the clip in it were used. Should ESC be manditory in all new vehicles?
Don’t want to sound like I’m happy but the city roads looked better this morning than they did the last snow fall. Must be because the mayor is in China.
To funny people, its about the drivers not the roads slow down a bit,
I haven’t had a problem with the roads, but I’m driving to the conditions and leaving lots of car lengths when following other cars. It’s not that hard.
Good advise everyone, also look up the road, I was following an “N” vehicle today and she just about drove under a loader. Today she was lucky.
Advice……
I have had no problems moving around on the roads this winter, just stating a fact regarding the poor quality of service we get from YRB. Plow, don’t plow, I don’t care, but don’t come saying we are over on the snow removal budget this year.
hillbilly,
sounds like you have YRB and the City of PG mixed up. YRB doesnt talk about a snow removal budget, the city does.
Harbinger, QUIT! I’m laughing too much!
Some folks have to concentrate on driving when they’re behind the wheel, some of these folks didn’t, so they have to deal with the aftermath. ICBC, penalty points?, victims injuries, taking a bus?
Hey, that’s funny! dumb driver bus……
But who’d drive it???
Winter (snow flake) tires & studs give people a false sense of security and then drive like on bare pavement. Just drive to road conditions & slow down. RCMP stopped me north of Williams Lake last winter & got warning for driving too fast for road condition. 85 in a 100 zone. Thanked him as it was very icy.
safer if road conditions were better. PG to Mcleod Lk was pretty much all ice today, not compact snow, and the only plow truck I saw was at Bear Lk cleaning the service road. Mcleod Lk north was fairly good as usual.
That’s quite the video, Vested.
We bought a camera for the truck this year because of all the people who just don’t pay attention. Text phone drivers, you look like drunk driver’s. So when the cops are pulling you over for drunk driving, that’ll be me calling your plate in. I just pray that all my recordings will be boring.
@ VestedInterest seen that one but always good to re post for those that haven`t.
