Proposed Pipeline Focus of Panel Discussion
Wednesday, November 21, 2012 @ 3:56 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The New Democrats have arranged a panel discussion on the proposed Enbridge pipeline.
Set to take place at 7 Thursday evening in the Weldwood Lecture Theatre at UNBC, the panel has been organized by NDP candidates Sherry Ogasawara and Bobby Deepak.
"The panel discussion will bring together First Nations, environmentalists, academics and students to discuss the risks this pipeline brings to our communities and our environment," said Ogasawara.
Deepak says he is looking forward to hearing ideas on how to stop the proposal "The panelists have all been working hard to raise awareness of the risks of the proposal,” Deepak said. “It’s going to be a great opportunity to look at ways to work together to stop this risky pipeline."
Also attending the panel session is Rob Fleming, the New Democrats environment critic.
There is no indication there will be anyone on the panel who can speak to any positives about the proposed project.
The discussion will be taking place just hours after the Joint Review Panel wraps up its first day of resumed hearings in Prince George. The Prince George hearings took a break after the sitting on November 9th. The hearings resume tomorrow morning with the Secretariat and the JRP posing their questions to Enbridge’s expert panel.
The JRP hearings will be held at the Columbus Centre on Domano Boulevard.

‘The panel discussion will bring together First Nations, environmentalists, academics and students….’
These groups are the very reason we projects like the pipeline..creating serious tax revenue to subsidize their sorry asses. Like where do they think the money comes from to pay their families education and health care costs. And,its now quite obvious the NDP have totally stabbed the working man in the back. There won’t be too many construction workers at this NDP meeting.
There will be birdman as BC will be fine without pipeline jobs. Look at the bigger picture, who is this pipeline benefiting the most? The gain isn’t worth the risk!
Have to agree, this is not about oil its about a raw product being shipped out of Country. We all understand our need for oil but the jobs created building this pipeline are short term and will go to companys with experance. Process the product here in canada then sell it.Thatswere we get long term jobs.
birdman i am a student and i pay my tuition other moneys that go to schools come from tax payer… which is all of us? I am also an ex construction worker and just because i have a trade does’nt mean i am for a pipe line? your comment confuses me. full of sterio typing and labeling
Pipelines and the oil and gas industry have been putting millions of dollars into Provincial and Federal coffers for years, although many people do not want to come to terms with that.
steph99 hits it right on the head. And if the economics aren’t there to refine OUR resource in Canada now, leave it in the ground for the next generation.

Hey Criminal Mind,
Are you getting paid for all this work? Or is it just a life long hate on for everything progressive in British Columbia?
Ron J. Davis
If the oil doesnt go West to Kitimat, it will go South to Vancouver, or through the Keystone Pipeline to Texas, or back East to the refineries.
At the end of the day, this oil will move, one way or the other.
So any idea it will stay in the ground for future generations, or be refined in BC etc; etc; is nothing more than hogwash.
Alberta will ensure that thier interests are looked after. At the end of the day, they could care less about BC.
My suggestion..Sell your Enbridge stock and buy Transcanada stock..

Palopu: “Alberta will ensure that thier interests are looked after. At the end of the day, they could care less about BC. “
You could just as easily switch that statement around:
BC will ensure that their interests are looked after. At the end of the day, they could care less about Alberta.
That’s right Johnny. If Alberta wants to poison their lands and waterways to enrich foreign investors then thats their business, but we don’t need their problems here in BC. Alberta won’t be the ones paying for any spill that damages the BC environment and the jobs related to it.
Exactly Johnny B. I couldn’t careless about Alberta interests.
Thanks for making my point, guys.
Thanks for making ours !
You must understand that BCers are looking after their long term well being. We also have the responsability of shipping products through our provinces safely. Dillbit is the raw product of the tarsands and the cemical makeup of dilbit is such that makes it impossable to clean it up if it is spilled on the ground. Dilbit is also abrasive much like sand paper. This makes it dangerous to transport by pipe. Enbridge has told us that a spillis likely and tghey also have a bad reputation for spills in the USA as they have problems with financing clean up after spills.
The pipeline would be Federal. It doesn’t matter what the Provincial Government’s position is.
If this oil isn’t moving through a pipeline it will move another way. The oil IS going to be exported.
There are an average 17,000 cars/week of petroleum transported in the US and Canada. There is nothing stopping them from using rail.
Except that pipelines are far safer statisically than rail transport.
for some of you, these pipelines will be taken to court by some FNs that oppose them, based on the infringement of their rights and title…FNs understand economic development, what it means etc…some are involved, some aren’t and this is shown, in a way, of what level of compromise will FNs take…
and these projects, like the PTP project are escalating, on the ground…check the video…
