Funding Delivered for First Nations Energy Projects

Saturday, November 24, 2012 @ 3:52 AM

Williams Lake, B.C.- The Williams Lake Band has received $40 thousand dollars to pursue clean energy projects.

This funding will support the development of the Williams Lake Indian Band’s Community Energy Plan and a feasibility study to look at the opportunities of integrating biomass district energy systems with the Highway 97 Development.

The funding comes through the First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund which the Province established to help First Nations communities develop clean power options and take part in the clean energy sector including wind, biomass and runoff river hydro electric power projects.

 Also receiving funding are:

Old Massett Village Council (Haida Gwaii) which received $30 thousand dollars to explore resources and  opportunities available to the Old Massett Village Council to develop new alternative energy generation projects.

Lax Kw’alaams Band (near Prince Rupert) received $30,000 for a feasibility study that will assess renewable energy technology opportunities available for the project area (wind, hydro or biomass, for example). Financially viable technologies and sites will be identified and recommendations put forward on how to proceed with development and implementation.

I would love to see what a $40,000 feasibilty study looks like.

Doughnuts , $39,900

Yes, we are not buying votes….we are funding a bogus feasibility study. Really what can be done with a pittance like that??? Is that what I’m paying carbon taxes for??

Why does each band have to do their own study? Hasn’t anyone ever done this already? Another complete waste of taxpayer money.
