Alcohol Use Investigated in Salmon Valley Rollover

Prince George, B.C. – Police are looking at alcohol as a possible factor in a single-vehicle accident late Friday afternoon north of Salmon Valley.
 
Corporal Madonna Saunderson with North District RCMP Traffic Services says injuries to a man in his 60’s turned out to be minor once he was assessed at University Hospital of Northern BC. Originally he was believed to have been seriously injured when his vehicle left Highway 97 near Mitchell Road and rolled. The man was pinned inside the vehicle and it took Fort George Highway Rescue crews using the jaws of life to open the wreck up and get the man out.  He was taken by ambulance to UHNBC where his injuries were determined to be not life threatening.

 

Cpl. Saunderson says another motorist watched the vehicle in question go off the highway and roll. That and other information at the scene has investigators checking out the possibility alcohol was involved.

 

Highway conditions north of Salmon Valley were very slippery at the time after snow which had melted earlier in the day turned to ice.

Test First, then report if he was impaired, to simple to point the Finger and if he was make him pay!

Impaired or bad road conditions?? IF the guy was impaired, thankfully he didn’t take out anyone else. I have driven this highway for the past 34 years on a daily basis and this is the worst I have ever seen the road maintenance! Last week was a scary ride to work everyday. So if… IF.. it was a impaired driver he got what was coming and hopefully more (fines etc.)I do know that something has to be done with the maintenance of this highway as this seems to be the area as to which the local mills are getting their timber supply from and yet that doesn’t seem to concern YRB. Come on CanFor, Dunkley, Carrier step up and voice your concerns!!!

Ya, i travel that way a lot, as well as all over the province. That is the poorest example of road maintenance i see. I have lost several friends between salmon valley and mckenzie junction. And all were driving large 4×4’s with studded grips, not death trap poorly balanced suv’s. Someone needs to tune the government inspector that tells the road maintenance crew when and where to sand. Not go for the liesurely drive that they do after the storms on a typical work day. That is how a lot of it gets done according to a sand truck driver i talked with.

I travelled from Dawson Creek to PG on Thursday and this stretch from Bear Lake to just north of PG was like glass. The roads were plowed but no sand what so ever you could see the oncoming traffic’s head lights shinning off the road like a mirror. The pine pass was a dream compared to this stretch. Can’t really comment on the reasons for this fellow’s crash but I’m sure the death the day before was a result of the poor road conditions.

yrb was the lowest bidder–that’s why they have the contract. It’s obvious that YRB doesn’t know what maintenance means. Pushing the snow off the road isn’t good enough.

Pretty sad that a fellow has to wear sunglasses at 4:30 a.m because of the road glare!! Anybody that wishes to voice their concerns call Mr. Trent Folk, Ministry of Highways, operations manager. I did, now lets see if he is true to his word about dealing with this issue!
