CNC Faces More Job Action

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 @ 3:13 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The College of New Caledonia has been served notice there will be more job action at the main campus in Prince George.

CUPE local 4951 says it will withdraw services from some specific areas,  namely:

  • mailroom clerk
  • print room clerk
  • Shipping and receiving
  • Coordinator, Centre for Student Success

The  withdrawal of services wil take place  from tomorrow, through to Friday.

Randall Heidt, Director of Communications  for CNC says the job action is  not expected to have any impact on  classes "Students  will see little or no disruption at the main campus.  It will be business as usual for  CNC students this week."

The job  action is taking place ONLY at the main  CNC campus in Prince George.

“We’re sending a clear message to the government that we are committed to achieving our goal of a fair wage increase for our members,” said Lily Bachand, CUPE 4951 president at the College of New Caledonia. “We know the impact of a full-scale walkout on our students and that’s why we are targeting selected departments.”

The   support staff have been without a contract for 2 years.

I don’t see any other alternative.

“The support staff have been without a contract for 2 years.”

But they have been working and GETTING PAID!!

Which is a whole lot better than the hundreds who have not been able to enjoy either in the past 2 years.

So they should just roll over and play dead while everyone else gets a raise? There are a lot of jobs out there jetstream so those 100’s could find a job.

The trouble with your point NoWay, is that “everyone else” did not get a raise. That is the point which you seem to be missing.

Your generality in your argument does not help your point at all. Statistics show that most people’s income has not increased in the past two years … if they still have a job.
