Harwin Elementary to Benefit from Jumpstart

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B .C. – Harwin Elementary School in Prince George will be  celebrating a “Jumpstart” donation from the   Prince George Canadian Tire Jumpstart charity.

The school will receive more than $8,000 in funds and equipment  so Harwin Elementary can create the Jumpstart Goals and Dreams program.

School Principal, Nevio Rossi, says there are many benefits to the program ““We want to promote the development of the whole student by encouraging athletic and academic excellence, along with increasing healthy lifestyles, lifelong learning and really increasing the students’ connection to the school which results in higher student achievement.”

The Jumpstart Goals and Dreams program is a hockey program for children in grades 5-7 who are considered “at risk”. Open to both boys and girls, the 5 month program can handle up to 60 students who play once a week and get instruction from a certified hockey instructor.

Associate dealer of the Prince George Canadian Tire, Selen Alpay, says the program is just as much a thrill to the Canadian Tire team as it is for the kids “We are incredibly happy to be able to help our local kids participate in sports. Jumpstart is a great conduit to being able to help get kids back in the game.”
