Victoria, B.C. – The BC Public Service Agency and the Professional Employees Association have ratified a two-year agreement under the Cooperative Gains Mandate.
There are about 1,200 members of the PEA employed in occupations including forestry, engineering, health care, and environmental management. The ratified agreement covers two years April 1, 2012 to March 31, 2014 with four separate general wage increases of one per cent each effective April 1, 2012, August 15, 2012, April 1, 2013 and January 15, 2014 funded from savings found within existing budgets, as required under the 2012 Cooperative Gains Mandate.
The B.C. government has been clear that there is no new money to fund wage increases in public service contracts. The Cooperative Gains Mandate provides public sector employers with the ability to negotiate modest wage increases funded from savings within existing budgets, not adding costs to taxpayers and ratepayers, and not sacrificing services.
Settlements under the 2012 mandate are expected to be unique between sectors and between employers in some sectors.
