Highway 97 Closed North of Hixon

Friday, December 7, 2012 @ 9:36 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Highway 97 south remains closed to all traffic following a single-vehicle accident north of Hixon earlier this evening.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson with North District RCMP Traffic Services says a vehicle left Highway 97, 15 kilometres north of Hixon and rolled down an embankment. She says the lone male occupant suffered fairly serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment.   The highway has remained closed pending removal of the vehicle from the bush. Traffic is being detoured through Kolling Road.

Cpl Saunderson says two witnesses have told officers on the scene that the victim’s driving was “uneventful”, that he did not appear to lose control of the vehicle.   However the highway is very slippery through that area.

Police do not suspect alcohol or speeding as factors in the accident.
