Supreme Court Justice Blasts Media

Thursday, December 13, 2012 @ 2:53 PM
Prince George, B.C.- Widely circulated reports that a trial date and location for trial had been selected for the trial of Cody Alan Legebokoff are not true.

“I have made no such decision in either respect” says B.C.  Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett  who   blasted the media during a hearing this morning, for the dissemination of false information “Accuracy, factual correctness and truth seem to be no part of what the media is reporting.”

Justice Parrett   says he assumes the media is not trying to deliberately “dynamite” the trial, but is prepared to consider “having someone other than the taxpayer” foot the bill for costs should he decide the trial must be held in another community to ensure the accused has a fair trial.

He has called for a special hearing next Wednesday in Prince George, at which time he will impress upon the media their responsibilities and obligations before the court. He says while all media are invited to attend, “special invitations” will be issued to at least two in Prince George , and while it is expected they will attend “I would be   happy to send the Sheriff around to give them a ride.”

Legebokoff  is accused of murder in the deaths of Loren Donn Leslie, Jill Stacey Stuchenko, Cynthia Maas and Natasha Lyn Montgomery although her body has not been found.
