Police Investigate Youngster Being Offered a Ride

Thursday, December 13, 2012 @ 9:32 PM
Prince George- Police are investigating a report that a suspicious person offered a ride to a child today.

Just after 1:00 pm, police received a report of a female grade three student who was offered a ride while walking on Johnson Street at approximately 7:45 am. A First Nations female in a blue or grey van asked the child if she wanted a ride. The child declined and ran away, later reporting the incident to her Principal at Harwin Elementary.

The Prince George RCMP take these reports seriously and are actively investigating. Hopefully these are just good intentioned persons concerned about children walking in poor weather. If this is the case, investigators are asking the driver to contact the Detachment at (250)561-3300.

A few similar reports have come into the Detachment recently, although vehicle and driver descriptions vary. One report was found to have been fabricated.

Probably a good intention motive, VERY sad that we have to be paranoid at these good intentions. Even taking a casual photo of children can get you in trouble (was called a child molester myself for doing just that).

If you were taking casual photos of my grandchildren without asking permission you would have more than an accusation to worry about.

DPJ, I agree that it is very sad that we are such a paranoid society. I have personally thought about offering children a ride (I am female) when I see them walking in very cold or wet weather but I always think how I would feel if I knew my children got in a with a stranger.

I would put money on it that it was a mom just wanting to make a child’s life a bit easier.

kadrian, those sorts of threats are silly. I suspect your children and possibly grandchildren might be better off if you took an anger management course. Yikes, overreaction or what?!

Yes, I’m afraid it is far too easy to accuse someone of having ulterior motives with no recompense to the accuser for doing so. There has to be a much bigger penalty for this, especially when it causes so much pain, agony and possibly a shattered reputation for the accused.

Unfortunately for the accused, no one who has heard of it ever looks at that person quite the same after that.

The “casual” photos taken were related to a neighbour that I was attending a get together. It was the mother of the visiting child who assumed the title on me (the neighbour was mad at her relative for that).

Terri-Lynn McClintic, The child that this at the time, young lady abducted would disagree with you but she`s dead.
