Murdered and Missing Women Report To Be Released Today
Monday, December 17, 2012 @ 3:59 AM
Prince George, B.C. — The final report of the Murdered and Missing Women inquiry will be released today. Families of the victims will have an opportunity to read the report and its recommendations first, then it will be made public at 1 this afternoon.
The report follows more than 7 months of hearings into how police handled the disappearances of women from Vancouver’s downtown east side. Even before it is released, it is coming under fire from some groups that claim it falls short in its focus on sex trade workers, the very women who were targeted by convicted killer Robert Pickton.
Pickton is serving a life sentence after being convicted of killing six women at his Coquitlam farm.
Inquiry Commissioner Wally Oppal will be available to the media to answer questions about the report at 1:00 this afternoon, then at 2:00 , Minister of Justice Shirley Bond will deliver the Provincial Government’s response. At 3, the Deputy Commissioner of the RCMP, Craig Callens, will issue a statement.
