Two People Escape Afternoon Fire
Prince George, BC – A garage fire forced two people to flee their home in the Blackburn area this afternoon…
Prince George Fire Rescue crews from three halls responded to the blaze in the 2000-block of East McLaren Road shortly before 4pm this afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Denis Poulin says on arrival of the first engine, the fire was small, but quickly spread and engulfed the garage, which was attached to the residence.
Poulin says the occupants of the home escaped uninjured. He says a total of 17 firefighters were on-scene for a couple of hours due to the heavy fire load in the garage.
"The home, itself, had some structure and smoke damage, but the garage was heavily damaged," says the assistant chief. "Cost of damage is estimated to be $150-thousand dollars."
Poulin says a fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the blaze. RCMP have not been called in.
