Commonwealth Pitches Trail On Downtown Re-Development
Wednesday, January 2, 2013 @ 4:51 AM
Trail BC- Dan McLaren of the Commonwealth Group of Companies has submitted a concept design for the re-development of a section of the Downtown of Trail, BC.
McLaren has had several appearances before the City of Trail, the Chamber of Commerce and other executives to present the idea.
According to informed sources, the President of Commonwealth Campuses first approached the City of Trail back in October 2012 after that city had formed a committee to look at redevelopment of that city’s downtown.
The mandate of the committee was to examine opportunities for the city to encourage new construction and renovation of buildings within downtown.
The city is looking at legislation that allows council the authority to exempt new assessments for a period of time, not unlike Prince George, where a tax break of up to 10 years is available for new development.
In the concept presented, Commonwealth put forward the idea of a multi use facility that would include a possible hotel, seniors housing, and some office, use similar to the concept presented in Prince George in 2009 by Commonwealth and the DBIA of which McLaren was Treasurer.
Recently McLaren spoke to the City Council of Trail to address concerns raised with the news the Northern Development Inititives Trust was foreclosing on a number of lots owned by Commonwealth in the downtown core of Prince George. The lots in question are near the site of the proposed Wood Innovation Center.

Yes… and? What did he say?
Milk one taxpayer ’til they’re dry and move to the next…
Remember the time he showed up at the HST community forum at UNBC? He got booed and heckled off the stage. What a …… this guy is. As Icicle said and I can’t agree more. Milk the taxpayers till they are dry and move to the next ones. That’s how these types operate. I remember he left the podium frustrated after no one in the audiance would listen to him trying to convince them to somehow enjoy the HST. Well WE THE PEOPLE voted to extinguish the HST and make …. like him pay like all others. Well soon that will happen again. He is a nobody living from milking YOU.
Soon the HST will be EXTINGUISHED. Less then 90 days to go and counting.
We shoudn’t blame Commonwealth for stealing our tax dollars…….City council gave it to them.
That’s odd mattyc. I distinctly remember you telling us that you were in the home renovation business and that all your work was billed ‘under the table’.
