Calgary, Alberta – The  Vancouver Northwest Giants have won the Mac’s Midget tournament in Calgary.

The Carolina Hurricanes were just 12.5 seconds away from winning the game, when the Giants scored to tie it up at 2, and force overtime.

The game would go to a second overtime period when the puck would go in the net off the skate of a Carolina Hurricane player, giving the Giants the win.

The Cariboo Cougars   of Prince George had taken part in this tournament but lost to  Pirati Chumotov  3-2 in overtime in their quarterfinal match up on New Year’s Eve. Despite being eliminated, this was the Cariboo Cougars best showing in the Mac’s Tournament as they finished up with a 3-0-1 record.
