Heartbreaker for Cariboo Cougars

Calgary, AB — The Cariboo Cougars have been eliminated at the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary after a 3-2 overtime quarterfinal loss to Pirati Chumotov.Despite being badly outshot, the Cougars took the lead with just under six minutes to go in the first as Logan Styler scored on the power play assisted by captain Ryan Forbes.The Cats were again badly outshot in the second period but Nathan Warren put on a show in net for the Cats stopping all 25 Czech shots through 40 minutes as the Cougars took their 1-0 lead into the third.The Czechs finally got on the board early in the final frame with a shorthanded goal to tie the game at one. The Cats re-took the lead 2-1 midway through the period as Styler once again found the back of the net on a nice shot after a feed from Riley Pettitt.But the relentless Czechs tied the game once again with 8:55 on the clock.The Czechs scored less than two minutes into the first overtime period eliminating the Cougars from the playoffs.Warren stopped 38 of 41 shots in his fifth consecutive stellar performance in goal for the Cats.Despite being eliminated, the Cougars enjoyed their most successful Mac’s winning their pool with a 3-0-1 record.The Cats return to BCMML play this coming weekend hosting the Valley West Hawks Saturday and Sunday.
