Air Quality Advisory In Effect for Vanderhoof

Friday, January 4, 2013 @ 4:13 PM

Vanderhoof, B.C.-  An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for Vanderhoof due to high concentrations of fine particulate matter. This advisory is in effect until further notice.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 39 µg/m3 at Vanderhoof at 3 p.m. today.

Cold temperatures and light winds resulted in particulate levels increasing over the region. An upper high pressure ridge is forecast to move over the region tonight. Conditions should improve somewhat once this ridge moves out of the region.

Persons with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

This Air Quality Advisory is expected to be in effect until further notice, with an update to be provided tomorrow afternoon or earlier if conditions improve faster than expected.
