Prince George, BC – The Prince George Spruce Kings fell 2-0 in their first game after the Christmas break in Powell River last night, but rebounded with a 2-1 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs this evening.

Goalie Kirk Thompson was instrumental in both games, as the Spruce Kings were outshot 39-16 in Powell River.  He was also selected first star of the game tonight, stopping 37 shots for the win.

Alberni jumped to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, but Justin Rai scored, unassisted, at 1:43 of the second period and Tyson Witala scored the game winner at 5:38 of the third, with help from Coltyn Hansen and Cameron Lawson.

The team plays game three of a five-game road trip tomorrow afternoon in Nanaimo before facing Chilliwack next Friday night.  The Spruce Kings sit in the middle of the pack in the Mainland Division with 42-points midway through the season, four points back of Chilliwack and Surrey tied at 46, and six up on 4th place Langley.  Coquitlam rounds out the division with 33-points.
