Input Sought On Potential Environmental Impact Of Blackwater Project

Sunday, January 6, 2013 @ 4:25 AM

Prince George, BC – Residents across the region have two more weeks to provide feedback to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency on New Gold Inc’s proposed open pit gold and silver mine to be located southwest of Prince George.

As announced at the end of last month, the agency will be accepting public comments until January 20th on which aspects of the environment may be affected by the Blackwater Gold project and what should be examined during the environmental assessment.

Copies of the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Guidelines are available for viewing at the public libraries in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, and Quesnel.  As well, the draft can be viewed on the CEAA’s website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca (registry reference number 80017).

As required by the recently revised Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, this is the second of four opportunities for public comment on the proposed project.  Once this period has closed, the agency will finalize and issue the EIS Guidelines to New Gold.

An application period for participant funding and a future public comment period related to the EIS will be announced at a later date.
