I find it ironic that the signage outside Pat Bells office is made of steel and painted to look like wood… nothing like pushing the wood first concept… contrast that with the new laminate beams used to spruce up Spruceland across the road.
Had me wondering why couldn’t a lot of the signage frames around town also be done in laminate instead of using steel and then painting it to resemble wood?
Something for the wood innovations center to look into I guess… in 2030 or something.
Cheers have a great weekend OP250 fellow readers and contributors :)
Dear joggers.. If the sidewalks are snowed in please don’t run on the road, find a safer place to run. Running on the roads is unsafe and in winter conditions you are making us drivers swerve to avoid you which puts us in danger. Find other places to run when the conditions warrant it. Thanks and have a lovely weekend everyone
BRRRRRRR!
Good Morning matty.
Wow….sure cooled off eh! Have a great weekend folks :)
I’m sitting here steamed at the temerity of the poor excuse for a driver who seems to think people who run on the road for kicks.
A someone who logs close to about 8000km a year “jogging”, I can tell you, the problem isn’t with the runners.
Fallen snow on the sidewalk deters me not at all. Snow that has been cleared at higher than the posted limit, thus filling the sidewalk with broken hard snow clumps pisses me off. Even then I try and stay and run on it.
Judging by the amount of carnage being managed by idiots behind the wheel who can’t even take the time to clear more than just a pie plate sized hole on their windshield, the problem isn’t with people running.
I have been running in this town for about 15 years and there is very little doubt in my mind of the outright disdain most drivers have towards anybody else on the road. Let alone cyclists or pedestrians.
Just remember Val, the guy who shows you the finger for blowing through the crosswalk will be ME.
Go jog around the Coliseum, CN Place or the university.
Go buy a treadmill run as many thousands of kilometers as you want. I agree with p Val on this one… You and the guy on the bike do cause a problem when conditions are like they presently are.
I never run on the road. So get that straight. That is NEVER. Yeah, run around the CN Centre? Spoken like a true couch potato. I run 20-30kms at a time.
No. I have run enough in this town to realize that it is only a matter of time before you get hit by a fool texting while driving. The law of averages comes into play when you log thousands of kilometres in any conditions. So I’m not the guy running on the road, thus I cause no problems bonneville. Try and keep up.
“I never run on the road. So get that straight. That is NEVER.”
“I have run enough in this town to realize that it is only a matter of time before you get hit by a fool texting while driving.”
Sounds like you’re running on the road to me, how can you hit by a texter when you NEVER jog on the road? Maybe he’s driving on the sidewalk?
styxxx…. is it worth your life you fool…joggers just cant go up against cars , trucks etc and come out on top! Ya you joggers may have the right to be on the road but again…is it worth it????
well Styxxx you must not be able to see all the Roadrunners from your ivroy tower… and sure you’re exemption, but there is a bunch of dudes running on the roads.
I was at the scene of an accident 3 yrs ago jogger vs car and what I found hilarious is that the jogger got minor injuries she was taken out by passenger side mirror on a truck she was adamant that she was in the right jogging on the road.
Unfortunately for her the police nor the courts saw it her way the officer at the scene fined her for impeding traffic flow for running on the road and the driver of the vehicle did everything he could to avoid her as many eye witness accounts stated as such. The courts when she tried to fight it found that she was at fault as even though it had snowed the night before the sidewalk was plowed and sanded and the judge found no reason for her to be running on the road.
End result she was hit with the fine court costs and repair bill for the guys truck.
I don’t mind sharing the road with jiggers in winter but you have to remember the road is for vehicular traffic bicyces, bikes, cars, trucks and other forms of motorized transportation foot power is not classified as motorized and therefore not allowed on roadways
Styxx when you are blowing through that crosswalk without looking, or the expectation that drivers are going to stop on a dime in winter conditions because its your “right” to be there, dont be surprised if you wake up with a Ford tattoo, if at all.
I have to say, having lived in many cities, Prince George Drivers are the worst. Not all, but most!
acrider: What are you posting for? I do drive here. Is running the only way to watch PG motorists? Just think first.
Rumrunner Wrong. I NEVER step out onto a crosswalk. PG drivers don’t stop. Oh and your little comment about striking a pedestrian? Listen Nancy, you are just the type of worm I observe EVERYDAY. Whether it is hiding inside your car or in your basement, you are NOTHING to worry about.
Why so upset styxxx? The initial post was regarding running on the road, and since you don’t run on the road, EVER, you obviously agree it isnt safe and it doesn’t really concern you, right? I’m not sure why you are all bent out of shape over it?
I see people driving on the sidewalks all the time. It won’t be long before they hit a pedestrian because -like most drivers in this city- they are oblivious to 90% of their surroundings. They’ve taken out a few garbage cans already.
The city towed 16 vehicles from in front of the hospital last night. Most of which were nurses working nights. I recommend you guys that got towed call in sick for your next shift. Then we will see if they do that again.
Hilarious… texter hitting a jogger. Steel signs made to look like wood.. Driving on sidewalks.. Nurses being towed..
What’s next?? Welll the morning only started
I thought there was no parking on city streets at night as it impedes snow removal? It is dirt cheap for staff to park at the hospital. 2 bucks for 24 hours, in a parade! Why on earth park on the street, especially when everyone knows snow removal is taking place? A machine can get around a car here or there, but if there were 16 towed, it sounds like a huge obstacle!

———————-
There is a staff parking lot at the back of the hospital. It’s huge; plenty of room for everyone. I know, I know….it’s all about me, me, me! I’m entitled to park as close to the door as possible!
I’m not sure how phoning in “sick” will affect the City?
It’s all full because of the extra staff needed right now. . They could have at least just given a ticket so they know for next time
“They could have at least just given a ticket so they know for next time” .. don’t you think the sign that says no parking between 11pm and 6am is clear enough?
Styxxx with all that hot air you are blowing the ice should be off the sidewalks in no time!!!!
And another pleasant argument this morning about joggers and drivers.
Yes, i know driving can be unpleasant in this town due to aggressive driving, congestion and in the winter, road conditions.
Lets all make it a point to try to limit our driving, especially at peak times to ease congestion and stay cool.
I saw multiple sets of graders out this morning, most of the roads should be cleared by Saturday evening.
There is a Northern Health parking lot right across the street. Northern Health operates both buildings. It would seem reasonable for staff to be allowed to park there. I do not think the are. Do you know, firefighter16?
I’m not the fool that thinks pedestrians on crosswalks should watch out for incompetent drivers.
I have to laugh at the drivers that refuse to stop on the crosswalk when they turn left onto Hwy 16 from Domano, but they stop at the merge sign. Hilarious. Why not just place a crosswalk at a merge sign ’cause the cowards in their vehicles only brake when they feel their lack of driving skill might cause themselves harm.
The sidewalks are cleared before most of the roads.
However, the “bike” lanes are seasonal from the looks of it. They are only bike lanes when there is no snow. That also goes for on-street parking and is especially noticeable around the CN Centre when there is an event.
So another opportunity for those who choose to jog on the roads is unavailable during the winter …… in a “winter city” … or is that not the flavour of the day anymore?
…that would be “right” onto hwy 16 from Domano.
I think that this column needs a name change. How about “LET THE WHINING BEGIN”.
Unbelievable.
The sidewalks are NOT cleared before the roads. Side streets maybe. But they don’t have many sidewalks.
Over the holidays the sidewalks were left for days at a time. No biggy, just a chance to run in hard going and build muscle. I ran from my place at the bottom of College Heights to 15th and foothills and back (20k) plenty while the snow was a foot deep. Actually the sleds packed a bit of it down so I could run on that.
Competitive log distance runners do not take winters off. In fact the Frozen A$$ 50k is in Calgary in just a few weeks time.
Whining about the whining? How original.
I know they can’t park there during the day but not sure about at night. Just think that they deserve a better.
Whining about the whining? How original.
I have lived in PG for three years, and I have never seen such aggressive driving. I have been cut off at my neighbourhood intersections, at marked crosswalks on busy streets, and at the entrances to parking lots, even with my stroller. I lived in Vancouver for 15 years before moving here and do not drive. I hope that drivers can slow down, leave earlier, and be a bit more courteous (no eye rolling or hand gestures)!
As well, I always shovel my sidewalk for walkers, runners, and those with children who need to get around even though the sidewalk plow comes by. And how about running on designated bike lanes?
so here is a new topic – two players have recently left the cougars hockey team. My rant is that these boys have been given an opportunity regardless of the logo on the sweater. To blame the organization for not “being on the radar” for the upcoming NHL draft is plain wrong. If you are a good player you get noticed. Being a good player means playing to your full potential in every game/practice regardless of internal politics and not “quitting”. I am pround that PG has a WHL franchise and the owner comes along with it. I still enjoy going to the games and will support the team for so long as they are here.
Trail along Tyner is cleared regularly. Great addition to the city trail system.
On another note, besides being “sensitive” in nature, does anyone know why the comments section in the “seeds for downtown…….” are closed. Have some legal threats already been leveled at 250?
My Thanks to the folks at 250 for actual journalism, something the mainstream media in the province seems incapable of.
I don’t follow the politics of hockey too closely but it looks to me that Forsberg has shot himself in the foot.

The parking on the street in the vcinity of the hospital is NOT owned by the hospital. The city of pg was responsible for towing those vehicles, not UHNBC.The signs are clearly posted and media commercials that tell you not to park overnight on the streets, as it hinders snow removal. A ticket and plowing snow around them, so they have to pay and dig themselves out might get the point across! Oh, but then they’d complain about that!
The parking lots at UHNBC are monitored by ImPark and you pay to park, no exceptions, and get a ticket of $30 to start, if you think you are the exception. The staff pays are very reasonable rate for parking, however you don’t want to walk that far,its dark, its cold,I don’t want to climb stairs (parkade) or whatever excuse then you take your chances.
Calling in sick for work at UHNBC because the city towed your car away is proving what to your employer?
Think of all the $2 parking tickets you could have bought with what the tow/impound is costing you.Read the signs!
Started a but of a chat I see..lol. FYI there are a group of 6-8 joggers that run along ospika every morning around 5:45 am. 4 of them run on the road and don’t move when there is traffic coming.. I drive there most days and I have to move so I don’t kill one of them.. The road is for vehicles and the side walk is for pedestrians.
Just visited PG yesterday, the roads were bad, But… I noticed that the sidewalks were plowed! I personally think that the roads are for vehicles!! Come on people who walk or run in a winter city. In the 70’s or 80’s it was nothing to get 18feet of snow. You couldn’t see your own vehicles in the driveway. We learnt to walk on top of the snow. We curtailed our activites to the conditions. Just laughed in seeing some people standing between the large windrows having a smoke. It is really scary to have a person jump out at you, when the city hasn’t plowed or sanded. Everbody has to remember that not everyone is mentally there.
Firefighter16: “The city towed 16 vehicles from in front of the hospital last night. Most of which were nurses working nights. I recommend you guys that got towed call in sick for your next shift. Then we will see if they do that again.”
I hope this person isn’t actually a firefighter. And if they are, that his/her entitled attitude isn’t representative of all firefighters.
“Everbody has to remember that not everyone is mentally there.”
I think that is why we have this new call to get addiction recovery centres built. ;-)
The fact that City Administration would not give Councillor Skakun the information he requested on a break out of the expenditures of the city brings to mind an interesting item.
****MORTONS FORK****
A Mortons Fork is a specious piece of reasoning in which contradictory arguments lead to the same (unpleasant) conclusion. It is said to originate with the collection of taxes by John Morton, Archbishop of Canterbury in the late 15th century, who held that a man living modestly must be saving money and could therefore afford taxes, whereas if he was living extravagantly then he was obviously rich and could still afford them.
Elected officers (members of parliament and councillors) sometimes may have recourse to a variant on Mortons Fork when dealing with unhelpful unelected officers, or civil servants. This variant asserts that an unelected officer’s non-compliance with the directive of their elected officer must be due to one of two equally unacceptable causes: either the civil servant is lazy or incompetent, or the civil servant is acting willfully or maliciously against the instructions given by his or her elected officer.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Have a nice day.
Seems the comments about joggers on the roads is the ‘topic du jour’. Hey, jogger’s–like frozen lungs?? Too cold to be jogging right now! You will ALWAYS lose to a vehicle; like someone else said, roads are for vehicles, sidewalks for you guys (walkers/joggers). Just don’t do it!
I know you are “Special”, you ride your Bike
on the Side Walk and run on the Road. some never get it, we have Laws and Rules applying to all of us!
Wow, do we ever have problems this am. I have to agree with the poster that tells us that PG drivers are terrible. As light as the traffic is in PG there is no reason why drivers cant share the street with Joggers, walkers or bycycles.
It takes 10 minutes from Foothills to downtown or anywhere in this City so why all the rush.
I’m wondering if there is a relationship between the crime in our city and the smartass drivers. Got any ideas?
Cheers

I am going to rant about the pathetic people who think they can drive in this town simply due to the fact of the lack of policing on the roads. First of all, go around the slow..err..people doing the speed limit. NO everyone wishes for their ICBC rates to go up if they get into a fender bender by going too fast for road conditions. People may actually be driving in the left lane to turn onto an upcoming street, so tailgating them won’t make them move over to the right one so you can drive faster. Secondly RED MEANS STOP. It does not mean step on it and have your tires spin out on the ice and snow and make everyone else wait while you turn on the RED light. If I hit you, guess what? YOU would be in the wrong. YOU blew the red light. Lastly, please for the love of all that is decent: TURN OFF YOUR DAM HIGHBEAMS. If you are too stoned or drunk to notice,I will point out to you that the city streets DO have street lamps and you don’t need high beams to drive through town. Lastly, if you can not drive without thinking your the only one of the road and that everyone should move over just for you then please: Wear a crown so we can see when the King or Queen is on the road and then we can thus rightly move over just for you.
All you perfect drivers have to get out of pg and drive in other cities… I have travelled across our great country numerous times, in big cities and small towns. And you know what.. There are good and bad drivers everywhere
. You only have to drive good once in your life..that’s when taking the driver exam.
Also I want to thank Opinion 250 for their online news. News appears here much quicker, less biased. and even though we are given a lot of leeway with our posts the majority are civil with their posts..
and of course the Friday free for all is always worth the read :)
Do the early morning joggers on Ospika run facing oncoming traffic or on the other side of the street just waiting for a surprise from behind? Not self preservation at it’s finest I’m sure.
P Val, I too want to thank Opinion250.com for its journalism and for allowing people to post without fear of repercussions. Thank you!
I think it’s great that people continue their jogging in the winter. That’s the way life should be lived; don’t let old man winter get you down. If you live in a winter city, you need to enjoy winter any way you can. Just be safe and don’t play chicken with vehicles.
Normally I complain about the City but I had the pleasant surprise to have a library clerk take away a library fine (for a damaged book – cigarette burns in it and I don’t smoke) for me. I really appreciate not having to pay for a book that I didn’ damage. Our city library is a wonderful place to spend some time.
There is an issue with the sidewalks, the built in backslope. Besides being awkward and painfull to walk or jog on they can be very slippery after plowed.
I have to agree with one of the posters above. If you think PG has the worst drivers anywhere, you don’t get out of town much. There are examples of bad driving and poor decision making behind the wheel no matter where you go.
Chief spence goes on a hunger strike demanding to meet Harper. Done. Now she wants the GG to be their or she boycotts. Done. Now the meeting is in Harpers office not theirs. She and others demand boycott.
Manitoba head chief threatens to shut Canada down.
And so the pathetic show goes on. Ever wonder why negotiations with FN’s are fruitless, lengthy, and accomplish nothing?
Watch this gong show in Ottawa. FN’s want change yet evry move to change the Indian act is resisted.
This won’t change overnight but the Government must stand up to illegal blockades and enforce court orders. The Caldonia fiasco may be ok for Mcguinty in Ontario. But it stops there. No more FN blackmail, extorsion and terrorism. Bring in the Army if the cops won’t enforce court orders.
I was recently driving in Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, and Kelowna. I’ll take PG any day of the week compared to those cities. If you don’t get out of PG much, then you have no idea how lucky we are to be able to move around at all times of the day as easily as we do.
That said, I wouldn’t jog on our streets at any time of the year, especially winter. There are many areas with bike/jogging lanes and sidewalks. If they are too snowy, I find another way to get some cardio. To all you die hard runners out there who bravely jog on the streets in the winter – there is a reason the term “die hard” has the word “die” in it.
I think the Hospital should have an area in the Hospital for people to smoke in. There are people outside in this weather dressed in their Hospital clothing, smoking, they are going to make themselves and everyone else sick.
Chief Spence goes on a hunger strike demanding to meet Harper and the Governor General. Harper plays stupid political games and refuses to meet her. Harper plays more games and agrees to meet her but does not include the Governor General. Harper plays more games and will only be present for a small part of the meeting. Harper plays more games and includes the Governor General. Harper plays more games and changes meeting place. Harper plays more games and …..?
This won’t change overnight but the Government must live up to its legal obligations towards FN peoples and provide all the amenities and fulfill all the obligations Canada is committed to under the various treaties.
Its time this political game and power playing involving riding roughshod over a minority with little power or ability to defend themselves came to an end, and the government carried out its legal obligations to them both as signees to a binding treaty contract and as citizens of Canada.
Funny how those who don’t exercise seem to have plenty of advice for those who do.
There is nothing “hard” about running in winter. I won’t even address the dense post about “frozen-lungs”.
When was the last time a “jogger” caused an accident? When was the last time a careless motorist caused a FATALITY? Last week.
Spin it however you like, if you jog on the roads in the winter your taking a life in your hands…your own. Play safe not stupid.
since this all started with running on the road and you say you NEVER run on the road, why are you so defensive?
Have a great weekend folks, Im going to play in the snow (no roads, no cell and lots of excercise still ;)
So where did the almost 1/2 billion go that was dumped into attawapiskat since 2006. The native chiefs are sure upset about democracy and financial accountability coming to their fifedoms.
Gov – “so what is it you want?”
Chiefs – “MORE MONEY”
Gov – “but we gave you xxx million dollars last year”
Chiefs – “not enough we need more”
Gov – “what did you do with the money you received?”
Chiefs look down at feet, scratch shoes on the floor, “Shut up! We are gonna block the roads!!”
I agree something has to change but this is the general perception of most of the people I talk to – albeit I am in a fairly redneck industry ;)
you may be in the right to jog on the road, but you may end up dead right.
Hilarious. Spin it however you like; your and you’re are not interchangeable.
Stupid would be driving without clearing your windows properly.
If more people got out of their vehicles and walked, jogged or cycled, maybe there would be a little bit more respect for the non-motorized users of the road. Who have every right to be there.
I think its about time the people in the Bands started asking questions about financial accountability with in their own Bands. Where is the Money going??
OMG they are still talking bout me.. I better quit jogging.. or at least catch up to those protesters and get some warmth. then wouldn’t get frozen lungs…
Ok ammorna, blah blah blah is all I hear. Instead of spouting the same old crap, why don’t you list some specific examples of how the FN’s are hard done by……my guess is you can’t. It’s the same old crap. Blockading roads and breaking laws isn’t going to help them AT ALL!!!!
Ammonra, Take off the blinders and stop being a FN apologist. Any ratinal person looking at this idle no more can see what a joke it is. The prime minister is not obligated to kow tow to every wing nut with demands. He has shown he will meet, which is more than most people would do when extorted. What will they use for there next boycot rational, no muskox on the menu for lunch?
Ammonra: “Chief Spence goes on a hunger strike demanding to meet Harper and the Governor General. Harper plays stupid political games and refuses to meet her. Harper plays more games and agrees to meet her but does not include the Governor General. Harper plays more games and will only be present for a small part of the meeting. Harper plays more games and includes the Governor General. Harper plays more games and changes meeting place. Harper plays more games and …..?”
Yeah, it’s all Harper’s fault. * rolling eyes *
We should do a complete audit of all FN’s that get Federal money, similar to Attiwapiskat.
The well run bands will say “bring it on”. The ones with something to hide will resist.
One thing comes to mind “Death Right ” .
Joggers are a different Breed, shouting from behind “passing on the left” , what are you supposed to do “Jump”, not for you or anyone else!
“Hey, jogger’s–like frozen lungs?? Too cold to be jogging right now!”
Frozen lungs, ROTFLMAO!!! Better stay inside Styxxx, the ice monster might get you!
“Joggers are a different Breed, shouting from behind “passing on the left” , what are you supposed to do “Jump”, not for you or anyone else!”
It’s just common courtesy so that the person being passed doesn’t get scared half to death when someone whips by them.
johnnybelt absolutely right.
audit all bands and see what they are doing with the money.
Ammonra, I just read your recent post. You really donât like Stephen Harper, do you?? You state that Harper is playing games this and Harper is playing games that!
Really?? Chief Spence goes on a hunger strike demanding to meet Harper and the Governor General. Wrong! She went on a hunger strike and demanded to meet with only Harper. Harper agreed to this but then Spence decides that she wants a meeting with the Governor General. Then she decides that sheâs not going to meet with Harper. Whoâs playing stupid political games??
You also state that the Government must live up to its legal obligations towards FN peoples and provide all the amenities and fulfill all the obligations Canada is committed to under the various treaties. Recent reports outlining details of the Attawapiskat treaty have clearly shown that it is fact the Attawapiskat Band that has not been living up to the obligations of their signed treaty.
You then state that itâs time this political game and power playing involving riding roughshod over a minority with little power or ability to defend themselves came to an end. I agree 100% with you! Itâs time that Chief Spence and her council stops abusing their positions of power and start acting in the best interests of their band members! We are hearing and reading more and more reports from âaverageâ band members who comment on their fear of reprisal if they ask or demand accountability from their Chief and Council. Chiefs and Council decide where band members live and if they get a nice house or a shack! I agree that this riding roughshod over their own members must come to an end!
You also comment that itâs time that the government carried out its legal obligations to them both as signees to a binding treaty contract and as citizens of Canada. But you fail to provide any facts to suggest otherwise, so letâs look at some facts.
The Harper Government has increased Aboriginal funding in each and every year that they have been in office! In addition and as noted in a Canadian Press article today: âBut many of the demands w ere already agreed to in principle in previous meetings, and would simply require some beefing up in order to meet First Nationâs standards. The government has already agreed to have a full discussion about treaties and their modern-day implementation. Adding more accountability and negotiators with decision-making powers to the existing offer would be feasible. Similarly, the federal government has existing initiatives on education reform and clean drinking water, and has recently committed to co-operating more closely with First Nations leaders on the education front.â
Amonnra, I am sick of people living in cold and mouldy dilapidated shacks, without adequate heat and clean hot and cold running water! But I am also sick of FN Chiefs and councils living high on the hog while band funds disappear into a black hole somewhere! Everybody needs to accept some blame for this situation. Band members for not speaking out for fear of reprisal, corrupt band administrators, ineffectual Federal Indian Affairs employees and Federal employees turning blind eyes. I am frustrated by the whole situation, but you lay all of the blame on poor Stephen Harper. Our Prime Minister seems like a fairly nice guy. He has a happy marriage and family life. He loves his wife and his children. He is well liked by his friends and I believe that he is fairly well respected by other World Leaders. He loves his Country and works harder than you and I do for the betterment of our Country.
Iâm not sure why you hate him so much! Please enlighten me!!

styxxx you have branded two types of drivers, fools and cowards. Which one are you when you get behind the wheel???
hart Guy, I don’t know Harper at all, so I don’t know if I like him. I do find that most people are pleasant, however. I certainly don’t agree with Harper’s politics, obviously. Is that what you meant?
I certainly don’t hate Harper, as you claim I do. I really don’t understand why you would make such a ridiculous claim, particularly since I made it clear in another thread that I don’t take these things personally.
All I did in this thread is put the other side of the coin to Dow7500 comments about Chief Spence. Every story has two sides, doesn’t it? I presented the other one. Look at the ire I raised from the usual suspects. I do wonder why.
I saw a ‘good’ bumper sticker the other day–Watch out for the Idiot behind Me!!
How right is that?
Hartguy-I see you note that federal employees are ineffectual in dealing with failed audits and corruption they discover. :-). One of few that has done so!
Harper is the Prime Minister….he is expected to take the heat when his majority government messes up. Next time around we could have Justin or Mulcair to throw stones at! ;-)
I’m not sure that I’m comfortable with the suppression of free speech being imposed on 250 by the judge. I can see caution being taken in what is being reported, but why shouldn’t we be able to express our outrage when reading these ‘currently in court’ issues??
Styxxx-my apologies you’re correct. ;-).
Ammonra: “Look at the ire I raised from the usual suspects. I do wonder why.”
I’ll clue you in. When one makes baseless inflammatory comments, ires will tend to be raised.

You are correct axman, I normally block scripts from running also…. browsing easier on the eyes:)
jim13135 comments on here could disqualify alot of people should this case go to a jury trial. You want jury members to have their own opinion based on what is presented in court, not on a news websie. I agree with you 100% that we should be allowed to express our outrage, but at the same time i see the precautions media outlets must take
JohnnyBelt, I made no inflammatory comments. I recounted the actual history of Harper’s actions. Why should factual recording raise someone’s ire?
Ammonra some people don’t want to hear the truth. Like Johnny, tell him the bands all get audited and he won’t believe you. ;-)
in regards to the towing of hospital staff cars last night, I find that ironic. Alward street is a disaster, due to the plowing and the construction still going on for the new cancer lodge. The construction workers never have their trucks towed, and it’s always been 2 hr parking on Alward, so staff from the hospital and the phoenix have never been able to park there due to the bylaw patrols. Where are those patrols now? Alward is narrowed to essentially to single lane near the cancer lodge – and it’s a gamble pulling out of the phoenix parking lot onto Alward because of trucks parking where there are yellow curbs in the summertime, and people parking in front of the fire hydrant. Someone is going to get flattened driving on that road in the near future, contacting city hall about it has brought no resolution or even a response.
gov’t has been throwing tax dollas at FN’s for decades…nothing has changed…it never will until FN’s become part of society and bbecome self reliant and get off those damn reservations…. they have little or no sense of self worth…gov’t did this to them…..

If a jogger did cause an accident, and I’m sure they do on a regular basis, do you really think they would stick around? You’ve lost this one big fella…safe jogging, and stay off the roads…. or you may be our next fatality :)
ammonra, I’ll retract my “hate” comment with regards to Stephen Harper and instead will use (as I should have in the first place) the term dislike!
The problem that I have with some of your comments is while you seem to steadfastly defend the actions of Chief Spence and other FN individuals, you seem lacking in any recognition for the problems that the average FN member deals with because of the irresponsible actions of their government. Lets be REAL honest here! There is massive corruption occuring within some of our FN bands. There are chiefs and council taking money from the mouths of children! Spence drives a Cadillac Escalade and pays her hubby $850.00 a day for what we’re not sure! We provide funding to bands only to have band members live in poverty. Any request for accountability is rebuked! Do you seriously not see a problem here? Are you prepared to just willingly give more and more money to aboriginal bands without any accountability for how it is spent? As a child, I was given an allowance. If I blew it all at once, or on something silly and then I asked for more from my parents, I was always asked what I had done with the allowance that I had already been given. I was never given more, instead I was offered some advice to perhaps not spend it all at once or to perhaps spend it more wisely. Even as a young child, I was held responsible. Our FN leaders are adults. Shouldn’t they be held responsible for the mismanagement of their band’s funds?
Perhaps we need to set up a new dual track system of taxation in this country, one where I can say that I don’t want to pay any additional taxes because I feel that I already pay enough and one where you can say that you want to pay more than you currently do so that more money can be doled out without any accountability!
– dont think money will solve the FN problems. It hasn’t in the past so why will it now? The more money in play, the more money disappears…. without a trace… something is not quite right.
BRRRRRRR!
Good Night albus
WOW!!!So much talk today about runners, parking, and govt….shut the front door.
Yes runners run indoors or on the
sidewalks.
If they are plowed by time you are running. Does anyway really know how much sidewalks that the city plows? There are certain sidewalks that are plowed when they are down town plowing the main streets..ie according to City Hall the downtown is to be plowed first. Then you get to the main streets 5th, 15th…ect. As for plowing Alward..that is a street that could not be done during the day as there is too many vehicles parked there. There are rules and regulations all over in this city. Even parking so go by them. Let the city crews do their jobs properly when it is night time plowing.
And you drivers out there…come on get real. “Someone is going to get hurt really bad”….as Peter Russel would say.
Govt’ well what can I say about that….bla bla bla. I think everyone has said it already. I want my land back. LOL!
Have a great weekend everyone and drive safe get out of the way of the city crews and pay your taxes. Oh and watch for runners.
Wonder if the citizen will go into graphic detail of the latest sexual assault, their past practice.
I ran competitively in HS. Then I grew up and swam competitively in University. Much better exercise since it is not so hard on the joints.
Now that you have the names of the accused go search out the idiots on Facebook. I’m surprised the RCMP haven’t locked down their pages. I hope the kid of the 20 yr old women was taken by the authorities and put somewhere safe.
gus, I would take running over swimming any day. Maybe that’s because I can still swim while the body won’t let me run anymore. ;)
