Williams Lake BC- Highway 97 remains closed to traffic following an accident 14 kilometres north of Williams Lake in which a tractor trailer carrying hazardous material to a mine left the highway and rolled Thursday night.
The driver of the unit was flown to hospital in Vancouver in serious condition.
The tractor trailer was carrying ammonium nitrate, which began leaking after the rig came to a stop. 70 homes within 400 metres of the accident scene were evacuated. Hazmat crews have been on the scene ever since assisting with the transfer of the cargo to another unit.
A detour route is available to traffic. However there is still no estimate of when the transfer of the ammonium nitrate will be completed and Highway 97 re-opened.
