Prince George, B.C. – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has put out the call for public comments on the proposed Carbon Creek Coal project.
The Agency has yet to make a decision on if a federal environmental assessment will be needed for this project.
The mine would be an open pit project by Cardero Coal Ltd and would be located about 60 kilometers north west of Chetwynd and 40 kilometers west of Hudson’s Hope.
The project description indicates this mine would have a life or about 20 years, producing about 4.1 million metric tonnes of metallurgical coal each year.
The proposed mine would start with open-pit surface mining, leading to a combined open pit surface, and underground mining activity.
The project description proposes to load the cleaned coal on to barges near the mouth of Seven Mile Creek on Carbon Inlet and transporting the coal approximately 175 km west and then south along Williston Reservoir to an off-loading facility at Mackenzie. From there, the coal would be loaded on to CN Rail cars and shipped to the Ridley Terminal in Prince Rupert.
The company is hopeful production can start in late 2014.

I hope that Cardero’s wallet is open, otherwise this scheme will fall by the wayside as the enviros and “native” groups will NEVER let this one pass.
