Highway 97 Closed Near Honeymoon Creek

Monday, January 21, 2013 @ 12:18 PM

Prince George, B.C- Highway 97 is closed  near Honeymoon Creek, approximately 20 kilometres  north of the junction of Highway #97 and Highway #39 because of a logging truck roll over.

Around 9:40 this morning, RCMP in MacKenzie were called to the scene of a single vehicle incident on Highway #97,where the highway was being blocked by a crash.  Upon arriving at the scene, the police found a loaded commercial log
truck had flipped and rolled on the highway.  Logs had spilled  all over the highway, resulting in the need to close the  highway.

The driver of the logging truck  was not injured, and is cooperating with police.

The Ministry of Highways & Infrastructure is aware of the situation and is responding.  It is anticipated Highway #97 will be closed for approximately 2 to 3 hours.  There is no Detour in place for northbound or southbound traffic.  Motorists
at the scene will have to wait for Highway Maintenance personnel to clear one lane, at which point an attempt will be made
to open the road to alternating traffic.

Anyone required to travel through Highway #97, near the Junction to Highway #39, is recommended to review the road status reports on DriveBC website.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is in its infancy.  Anyone with any information on this crash or having seen this logging truck, prior to the crash is asked to contact the MacKenzie RCMP Detachment at Tel# (250) 997-3288
