Crime Task Force Set

Prince George, B.C. – “We have moved towards improvement which is important to note” says Mayor Shari Green in announcing her plan for a Task Force on Crime.
She wants the new Task Force to bring all the stakeholders together, “I’ve got the Surrey crime reduction strategy before me, they had a pretty extensive committee with over 100 participants.” That committee produced a report in just a couple of months.
Councillor Murry Krause says there is a mood in the community to “Let’s do this once, in a coordinated fashion.”
Councillors Dave Wilbur, Garth Frizzell and Brian Skakun all put their names forward to take part on the task force. While the initial call was for two councillors to assist the Mayor, it was moved, and seconded that all three be allowed to serve on the Task Force.
The Task Force has four main objectives:
Reduce crime and increase community safety
Increase public involvement in reducing crime
Increase integration between all stakeholders involved in crime reduction
Improve public awareness around the reality and perception of crime
The mandate of the Task force will follow the three points listed below:
a) Facilitate community understanding and awareness of the City of Surrey’s Crime Reduction Strategy.
b) Evaluate the applicability of recommendations contained in the City of Surrey’s Crime Reduction Strategy by inventorying similar initiatives operating in Prince George.
c) Provide specific recommendations regarding further action to be taken by the City of Prince George to develop and implement a Crime Reduction Strategy.
The call for a Crime Task Force follows a third straight year of Maclean’s Magazine labelling Prince George as the Crime Capital of Canada.

This all sounds so wonderful. “We have moved towards improvement”.
“Bring all the stakeholders together”. That’s a good start.
“Then a pretty extensive committee presented a report in a couple of months”
“There is a mood to do this once, in a co-ordinated fashion.”
Listen to yourselves. What are you going to do? What specifically are you going to do?
“Facilitate, evaluate, recommend” Are you serious? Cut with the c–p and get to dealing with the real issues. How are you going to deal with this problem?
“Stakeholder”, that’s a laff. How does Joe Crack-head equate to Sam Lunch-pail? Do these two specimens even belong on the same page? Where does Sally taxpayer appear on this graph? This is nothing more than a “photo-op” for everyone involved and a great example of mutual back-rubbing.
Suffice it to say, our municipal government can’t pull any federal strings. If we wanted true “Community Policing” we would have to opt out of the R.C.M.P. and live with the consequences.
Is this going to increase the RCMP response time for strangers backed into the neighbors driveway with an enclosed trailer from 40 minutes to 10?

She’s Bosley….right ?
A great start…….a lawyer and a convicted ! Neither one will be producing a report in “a few months” ! Are the other 96 going to be PGRCC inmates ?
Bring the stake holders together.
Crooks, lawyers, and Shari. Should be quite an interesting meeting.
How many “task forces” do we need? One for every motion passed?
