Wednesday night in Prince George, the Cougars were defeated 3-2 by the Prince Albert Raiders. Prince Albert climbed back from a 2-0 deficit to earn their 28th victory of the season. Dallas Ehrhardt and Dan Gibb supplied the goals for Prince George.

The Cougars put forth a strong first period, outshooting the Raiders 10-2. Prince George had two power plays in the first, but were unable to capitalize.

The shots were a little more even during the second period, which remained scoreless until the 13 minute mark, when Dallas Ehrhardt held a puck in at the right point, skated to the middle and beat Luke Siemens with a hard shot to make it 1-0 Cougars. Ehrhardt’s  third of the season was scored unassisted.

38 seconds later, the  Cougars struck again. This time it was Captain Dan Gibb who snuck a point shot in past Siemens for his third of the season, and a 2-0 Cougars advantage. Caleb Belter and Raymond Grewal had assists.

Moments later, the Raiders would move back within one when Josh Morrissey skated into the slot and  roofed a backhand shot over the glove of Mac Engel for his 13th of the season. It was 2-1 for the Cougars after 40 minutes.

Early in the third, Prince Albert forced the tie when Anthony Bardaro spun around in the slot, and beat Mac Engel with a low shot for his 19th of the campaign.

The game’s final goal came at 12:57 when Mike Winther tipped home a point shot from Harrison Ruopp. Prince Albert was moving the puck well in the offensive zone in the seconds prior to Ruopp’s shot.

The final shot tally had the Cougars outshooting the Raiders 28-24. Neither team was able to score on a power play as the Cougars went zero-for-six and the Raiders finished zero-for-five. Luke Siemens made 26 saves in the Raider goal while Mac Engel turned aside 21 in response for Prince George.

Next up, the Everett Silvertips Friday and Saturday at the CN Centre. Friday’s game will mark the head coaching debut of Mark Holick, who was named the 10th head coach in (Prince George) Cougars history earlier on Wednesday.

1426 paid tickets. How many in attendence??

Better can the coach….has a terrible winloss record.

Totally disheartening for the players. Poor attendance based on inept play and management over the past 10 seasons, money losing proposition for the owner, subsidized by the taxpayers of PG. Time for a huge shake up.
