Todays Is Hartley Miller’s Last Column On 250News

Friday, February 1, 2013 @ 3:44 AM
For many of you,  one of your weekly reads is Hartley Miller’s Slap Shots. Today is Hartley’s 404th such column on 250 News , it is also his final column  for us.
Tomorrow, Hartley, moves on to what we hope  he will find  to be, bigger and better fields.
Hartley has been writing his weekly sports column with 250News since we launched the website in  May of 2005, so it goes without saying that he will be missed.
At that time,  Vista Radio,  which  is Hartley’s primary  employer,  was  not in the web news business, so  they supported his  involvement with 250.
But changes in  technology and a shift in  media  mean  his employer  now finds itself  in direct competition  with 250News.   That  put Hartley  in a very difficult  position.  We understand  why his employer  has requested he  focus his talents  on their  product alone, that’s the nature of the  media business and if the roles were reversed, we might have found ourselves  making the same request..
We  appreciate that Vista radio has allowed Hartley to contribute to 250News  over these past 7 and a half years and we appreciate the  fact that  week in, week out, Hartley provided us with a column.  He never  took a week off,  never missed a deadline. That kind of commitment is hard to find.
He has been a major contributor in making 250News the most read news service in Central and Northern BC.  We thank him for that,  and we wish him the best as he continues to bring you the sports at CJCI (The Wolf) and FM 94.

Too bad. His was one of the few columns I looked forward to on a weekly basis.

I’m pretty sure his column appears in the Free Press. Unless this decision changes that too, you could catch it there.

All good things are subject to change..it was a creative partnership for all concerned while it lasted..perhaps Ben, Hartley and those folks at Vista can work out something equally as creative for the next seven years

Locally sourced reporting of any genre is hard to come by these days. Great to hear Hartley isn’t leaving town.

Any chance that Opinion 250 can give us a link to his new location just like the CBC links down the side of the main page?

Dang! His column was the one thing I would always make sure I caught up on when returning from vacation!

Anotherside has a great suggestion Opinion 250 … “Any chance that Opinion 250 can give us a link to his new location just like the CBC links down the side of the main page?”.

This would save us from looking for his article elsewhere, and maybe drifting away from here!

Or, for the perpetually lazy, you could google it, find it, and bookmark the site on your own browser.
