RCMP Believe Arrest Will Disrupt Drug ‘Flow’ Between Island And Yukon
Prince George, BC – A 46-year-old man was arrested this past Friday afternoon as he waited at the Departure Bay Ferry terminal, preparing to leave the Island for the mainland.
Nanaimo RCMP Media Relations Officer, Constable Gary O’Brien, says he was arrested with approximately 50-pounds of marihuana, that has an estimated street value of $150-thousand dollars.
He says, "Our investigators believe the arrest of this person, and the subsequent seizure, will cause a significant disruption in the flow of marihuana between Nanaimo and the Yukon."
At this time, Constable O’Brien is not releasing the man’s identity or hometown. He says the arrest is the result of an investigation by Nanaimo RCMP’s General Investigation Section that has spanned several months – he says the investigation is not over, and further arrests could be on the horizon.
The suspect had been under surveillance by plain clothes officers, who arrested him without incident at his car in the ferry terminal. The individual does not have any previous criminal convictions. He’s been released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to be back in court in May.
