Timberwolves End Season With Wins at Home

Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC basketball teams capped off their inaugural CIS seasons with victories Saturday night.

The Women Timberwolves beat the Mount Royal Cougars 76-63 at the Northern Sports Centre.
The Cougars defence caused problems for the Timberwolves, forcing 10 turnovers in the first quarter to put Mount Royal up 16-11.  But some sharp-shooting around the perimeter had the Women Timberwolves up 43-33 at the half.  Jordyn Rabbitt went two-for-two from the three, while 5th year Kady Dandeneau also had a three-pointer.

The Cougars contined to force UNBC errors in the second half, but could not capitalize, shooting only 28-percent from the field.  The Timberwolves, meantime, scored 32-points in the third quarter en route to winning their final game of the CIS season.  They finished with an 8-14 record, while the Cougars closed the year with a record of 5-17.

And the men’s team was victorious as well, defeating Mount Royal 83-68 in a hard-fought battle led by the team’s 5th year players.

Mount Royal was up 39-36 at the half, before Jose Araujo and Sam Raphael, led the charge for UNBC in third quarter.  Foul shots proved to be the difference in the third, with the Timberwolves making it to the line seven times, compared to the Cougars three.  Araujo hit a three to put the T-Wolves ahead 44-42, and the team did not let up from that point on.

Araujo chipped in 20-points, while Raphael added 19, and guard Joel Rybachuk – also playing his final game in green and gold – had 11-points last night.  The Men Timberwolves finish their first year in the CIS Canada West with a record of 6-16, while Mount Royal finished at 5-17.
