Squandered is probably not the correct terminology. In fact Alberta is in deep doggy doo, because of the low price and therefore the low royalties it gets for its oil exports to the US.
That’s one of the reasons they would like to be able to sell this oil to other Countries than the US, however easier said than done when you consider that it is the US Companies that own most of the oil in Alberta, and have all the refining capacity in the US.
We will (if we ever get to that point) have the same problem with the sale of LNG. In order to compete on the world market for natural gas, we would have to produce if for the same price that it is presently being produced and shipped from places like Austrailia, etc; In other words, the price would be 50% less than what Christy and the Liberals are touting at this time.
We are not masters of our own fate in this Country, and one on the main reasons, is that our politicians (of all stripes) are not of sufficient intelligence, or character to play on the world stage.

I recall a bunch of years ago Japan bought Northeast coal for arguments sake, $10 bucks a ton. Some of that money was put toward the interest on the loan the province took out to pay for the railroad from Tumbler Ridge. Then we find out Japan was getting coal from a few other countries. Australia made the Japanese build their own railroad to Aussie coal. All of a sudden Japan sends a memo to BC saying we will give you $5 dollars a ton for your coal. What would you do if you were BC? Besides Japan dumped the coal offshore to stockpile it. It ain’t going anywhere. Shrewed western horse traders we are, eh?
