Don’t drive on Hesse place around the cul de sac, went to visit my bud and almost lost the under carriage in my car.. And they pay taxes for that ?

Another week -another scandal for the BC Fiberals! They are just trying to find a fallguy as we wait to see what else befalls the goofs in Victoria.

Anything ever gonna be done about all the crows in the bowl area around foothills?

Its like a Hitchcock movie.

re: Crappy residential road clearing.

I am on the other side of the fence. I hate the city scraping up the ice chunks and dirt and sometimes my lawn or curbing and dumping it in a messy pile way too far onto my property.

I can shovel my own windrow if one is left and I will leave the ice chunks at the end of my property close to the curb and gutter. My lawn and driveway curbing won’t be destroyed by my shoveling either. Not to mention no sand and road dust will cover the first 20 feet of my lawn either…which I won’t realize until the glacier melts in June sometime.

The only time of year I can be sure my kids won’t be run over while strolling in the crescent where I live, is when the weather creates a series of ice ruts and holes that slow buddy from racing all the way to his driveway.

But that is just me.

Re: Snow on residential streets

I had a common sense moment the other day while the loader was building K 2 on the corner of my yard . Having snow the height of the stop sign and having drivers inch way out into the traffic to proceed seems a little dangerous . A couple of 966 buckets off the corners while clearing is going on would be nice.

Can someone post the link to the website for the petition against amending the OCP! Thank you.

City of Prince George to decline OCP Bylaw # 8383, 2011 Amendment, Sign for your fights.

This is just my humble opinion but it seems to me that Opinion 250 was a little light on the coverage and comment on the Pat Bell/Brian Fehr/Dan McLaren/WDIC story. Based on reports of certain people hiding from document servers and Dan MacLaren’s obviously bad timing at politics, I think that all parties lack credibility on this huge issue. It seems like rich guys wining because they aren’t going to get richer. If we started hanging politicians who talk back room deals and pseudo promises, you couldn’t see the forest for the rope.
I just thought that the players are too important and too connected for Opinion 250 to level any sort of criticism.

Again, full respect for Ben and his staff. I wish I had the same respect for Bid and Commonwealth.

Why are we giving $ 32 million to 15 First Nations that are a part of First Nations Limited Partnership for a non-equity investment in Pacific Trails Pipeline???

Pat is a good man, he did a lot for the north, a lot more than any politician has in a long time.

No one is perfect, we all have skeletons in the closet. however if the good out weights the bad by 400%, give the man a break.

poor gold miner, because it is a done deal. This is the part that is called the “Dog and Pony Show”.

Beacause, poor gold miner, that is how the “consultation” game is played these days with First Nations. Another deal not mentioned is the $9 million granted to the PTP First Nations 3 years ago for training aboriginals on pipeline development. Alot of money is being made by some people in this LNG fiasco. And where are we at? Right where we started years ago – nowhere.

L&M has put a 400 page report sewerage system approval process into the agenda for the Public Hearing. Attached to this is the assesment roll and title search for the property dated Nov.2011. What is conveniently missing from the reportis the covenant. On Dec. 2, 2011 a covenant along with priority agreement was put on the Title to the propery in regards to the water well.

In order to get it right, the developer in the new application to city is asking for more changes.

In the new application to City for December 2012 : it reads

Section 219 Restrictive Covenant

A condition of the previous rezoning application was the registration of a Section 219 Restrictive Covenant

which specified that the property may only be used for a community care facility if the building was disconnected from all wells and connected to water storage cisterns. To date, this covenant is still registered on the title of the subject property.Document Number: 252162

The current Section 219 Restrictive Covenant includes reference to the Z16: Therapeutic Community

comprehensive zone and a community care facility, major use.

As the application has been amended to propose a site specific amendment to the AR2 zone, and the AR2 zone does not allow for community care

facility, major use, the Department recommends that the covenant be replaced with a new covenant that

reflects the current zoning proposal.

Furthermore,

the Department recommends the new covenant include wording that restricts the subdivision of the subject property.

The subdivision regulations of the current AR2 zone require any new lots created meet a

minimum lot width of 70.0 m and a minimum lot area of 2.0 ha. As the area of the subject property is 4.03 ha,

there is the potential to subdivide the lot into two. To ensure the proposed use is limited to just one facility,

restricting the subdivision of the parcel is necessary.

The Department recommends that Final Reading be withheld until the existing Section 219 Restrictive

Covenant has been removed from title and replaced with a new Section 219 Restrictive Covenant that i)

specifies that the property may only be used for a community care facility, minor or community care facility,

therapeutic if the building is disconnected from all wells and connected to water storage cisterns, and ii)

restricts the subdivision of the subject property.

How about the free press survey on our mayor and council….with grades like that they should all be riding to Patrica Blvd on the short bus;)

Over 75% rate Ms Green performance as poor or below average and almost the same have said she has failed to deliver on campaign promises.

lonesome: “How about the free press survey on our mayor and council….with grades like that they should all be riding to Patrica Blvd on the short bus;)

As they say, timing is everything. This poll taken after general tax increases are announced (3.5%) coupled with utility bill cost hikes.

Anyone notice that the ditches along the Bypass are the dumping ground for some of the big property owners on each side of Central Street. Seems they get to dump there snow and garbage Sand, gravel paper mixed in and then the Tax payers get to pay for someone to clean up and get the grass growing so its ready for Next Winter. Perhaps the users should be the payers. Also in your neighbourhood bylaws does”t allow you to push or carry snow across the road and dump. So How Is This Legal.
Other business owners have to haul to proper facilities maybe they could just save costs by dumping here as well.

JB wrote: “This poll taken after general tax increases are announced (3.5%) coupled with utility bill cost hikes.”

Come on JB …… did she not campaign on reducing expenditures?

This is EXACTLY the right time to take such a poll since the issuesof the campaing and the recetn action aligne about as perfectly as one can get them to line up.

Any one watch SUN news? nice to see reporters asking the tough questions

Whats your point? You think people are so narrow minded they would answer a poll a certain way only because of one issue? I haven’t heard too much positive talk about our esteemed mayor for a much longer time than that.

Gus .. Right on … anyone who has attended school knows that report cards come out after the examinations, not before

Just to remind everyone:

From Oct 2011 ….. oh that was so long ago … LOL.

“Financial Discipline: which she outlines as “living within our means” and says she will work with Council to direct staff to find 10% cost reductions across the board. “If we tell them to find it, they’re going to find it “ says Green “If it means changes in service those are decisions that Council will have to make but I think we have reached the end of the line for tolerance for tax hikes in this community.”

One of the nice things about O250 … they keep the articles and comments ……

anotherside ….

oh teacher … please give me another chance … I promise to study and I will get at least a B ….. I know I can do it…..

Sure Johnny, I’ll give you that B just on your promise ……

LOL

whattttttt they are giving FN money?? Musta been pretty quiet for I don’t recall it being in the News. And this money is being used to train them for the pipeline?? kinda presumptious isn’t it??

Ohhh heyyy Clark coming to town today. Hope she brought some free food for the residents here :)

Voters in this town have short memories when it comes to elections. 80% of these ninnies will get re-elected as they have “name recognition”. Just dump one person if any. Collective amnesia along with empty promises by bought and paid for incumbents. Don’t vote for an unknown. They won’t know what to do. They maybe honest and all, but that’s not enough. During the last election I said they all had agendas and belong to special interest groups just waiting to get access to your hard earned taxes. I said beware and good luck to the voters. I also said “vote wisely”. Obviously some of them didn’t. Maybe next time.

I would never think of supporting,
Mayor Green. But the fact is that the present council has inherited a lot of miss management in the past and the council has to work around this mismanagement.

The debt that the cituy has at this time is one of the problems and Mayor Kinsley created a lot of that debt. Debt or no debt the Mayor is in over her head and has also become a big problem along with councilors like Stoltz. We are going to have to suck it up till the next electio so cheer up.
Cheers

But: “Whats your point? You think people are so narrow minded they would answer a poll a certain way only because of one issue?”

That’s exactly what I’m saying.

gus: “Come on JB …… did she not campaign on reducing expenditures?”

Yep. Once again, we all got sold on the idea that we can have it all with low taxes and no increases to user fees, etc. There’s no question it was an effective tactic that got her elected.

Now that reality has set in, we are starting to realize how badly underfunded things like infrastucture have been.

When we’re ready to elect a new mayor, will the voters remember all this, or will they listen to the promises to ‘reduce taxes and maintain services’?

JB

I think you are confused, it is the mayor and council that have the attention span of a goldfish and can only deal with what is in front of them at the moment.

Those taking the survey remember promises broken and fiascoes such as Haldi, China trips, sale of golf courses, core reviews…. ad infinitum

Telling the voters the truth about increasing taxes and user fees to make the City sustainable is a way to not get elected.

lonesome: “I think you are confused, it is the mayor and council that have the attention span of a goldfish and can only deal with what is in front of them at the moment. “

And the people of PG aren’t the same? Lol.

“an effective tactic”

A what?

It was either:

1. an ignorant position to take because after three years on Council she still did not understand how the City works ….. and, in this case, that still remains a VERY plausible explantion backed up by continuing indicators, or

2. It was a tactic which I would consider to be totally unethical and unbecoming of even a politician ……

“Telling the voters the truth about increasing taxes and user fees to make the City sustainable is a way to not get elected.”

So I see we have a major problem here. If the objectivce is to get elected, then we simply follow Hitler and other dictators because they have led the way.

If the objective is to be elected while telling people the realities that a community is facing, then that takes some brains and charisma.

We have little of either in this community.

Hey ibear, would it not make more sense for Apache & Chevron to put up the 32m instead of us taxpayers

So has anyone taken a poll of how well this Counciul did with

1. determining the right process for a core review for this community;

2. administering the process of the core review;

3. getting value for money from the core review

4. knowing how to dealw with the outcome of the core review.

I think it is something the new Auditor General of Municipalities should sink her teeth into so that others in the province can learn how not to handle a core review should they wish to have one.

Don’t worry Mayor Greene is in Ottawa getting some advice….probably got her sights set on a federal nomination?? I wonder who is paying for her little holiday?? $$$$$ + how many % increase on your city tax bills….so these elected officials can leave the town they are supposed to be looking after??

gus: “If the objective is to be elected while telling people the realities that a community is facing, then that takes some brains and charisma.”

When it comes to election time, I don’t think people are interested in the truth or ‘reality’, especially if it hits them in the wallet. Look at the reactions every year to tax increases and the Utility bill.

People want to know what’s in it for them, not how much more they are going to have to pay if they elect someone.

Something Old and Something New, the business on George St. that has been closed for about two years, Whats happening ?? The other day there were lights on and someone walking around ,phoned left a message but my call was not returned. People have consignments in the store they would like back or paid for. What is the next step??

Retired 02, remember when Green announced she would be running for Mayor and I said “she has served one term as a councillor and now she thinks she is an expert with all the answers” and you replied “we should give he a chance”. Well here we are almost a year and a half later and her answer is taxes increase after increase. Scarry part is there is another year and a half left on her term. Scarry!

32 million is what is cost for the First Nations to give up being stewards of the land…lol

poor gold miner – Apache and Chevron just signed a $200 million agreement with the First Nations PTP partnership on Monday – more $$!

JB ….

This discussion ends here for me. If people are so stupid, then quit complaining.

I voted ….. I voted for three people who I felt had made good decisions in the past. I doid not vote for anyone else. Two of those people have disappointed me with their positions so far. They will no longer get my vote.

I cannot help it if this city’s average voters is stupid. Nothing I can do about it. However, I wish they would stop complaining.

JohnnyBelt – that was Associate News Editor Arthur Williams, not Neil.

Good on ya JohnnyBelt, you beat me to it! Good article though, thanks.

Was listening to satellite radio on way to work and they were talking bout Chicago had imposed more taxes to cigarettes. Taxes now account for like six dollars a pack and they were complaining that a pack of cigs now cost eleven bucks.. Wowww they need to be educated bout Canada. Believe a average price is like ten bucks up here. Interesting

sooo Green is in Ottawa ??? Poor girl.. Probably deserves a lil break from all of us here.. Surprised she’s there and not here helping open that new house by the Cancer Clinic today.. heyyy Clark is coming all the way from the lower mainline

So… looks like attawapiskat is still in disrepair, while T.Spence is now appealing to UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to urgently intervene with the forced implementation on the controversial budget bills the FN’s were not consulted on. WTF?

Here is an interesting read on the man caused global warming scam, court cases, and the harm carbon tax is doing to Australia.

Scary Sherry is in her glory. No City manager just some recycled yes person so she gets to run our City. They will probably not replace Bates untill the next election. No hope beyond Hope.
Cheers

Hey, it’s OK to park your car on the wrong side of the street this winter. The city is no longer towing them away for this in the College Heights area or writing tickets for illegal parking.

Why do only three places in B.C. have still got flouride in the drinking water. We are one of the three places….makes no sense. There must be a problem with the flouride in the water or the rest of B.C. would not have gotten rid of it.

“No one is perfect, we all have skeletons in the closet. however if the good out weights the bad by 400%, give the man a break.”

LOL, too funny. If you heard the stories I have and I had the proof to back them up…..

CTV news did a story about all you left lane hogs…link is at the bottom

http://www.sense.bc.ca/2013/02/28/left-lane-bandits/

Fiscal responsibility goes much, much further than money. That is where the simpleton’s definition of fiscal responsibility stops.

The street savvy person goes to value for money as well.

In other words, how many $500 toilet seat did we buy when we could have had better quality for $75 each.

Wasting money is not fiscally responsible. It is the easiest thing in the world to balance a budget. Spend less or increase revenues.

All she is doing is increasing revenues when she indicated she would spend 10% less …….. and hold the line on taxes …..

Haven’t heard a peep about the PG gang in Ottawa. Now that said, if they are here and have their eyes open, they should at least return to PG with a lesson on how to clear snow effectively (we had a great storm earlier in the week).

Yup, the big complaint in Ottawa yesterday was how 5 or 6 articulated buses got stuck and held up traffic, as well as how it could take up to 24 hours to have every road in the city cleared adequately (meaning cleared twice). Oh the horror, LOL!!!

So our local library used to offer invigilation services to students for free. From what I could see it didn’t take much of the librarian’s time as all my exams were taken online. The librarian had to fax a sheet of paper to the institution where I study via distance education, then they received an email back with a code for getting into the online exam. The librarian doesn’t sit there and watch me take the test so they have time to do their other work.

The library has now instituted a $30 per exam fee ($50 if you want a time outside their exam hours). For what????, I ask. Distance education costs approx. 30% more than taking a course at an institution and now students are being gouged by the city they pay taxes in for a service that used to be free.

Thank you to the City of Prince George for nickel and diming us to death.

Axman, as long as the driving public realizes that some drivers ought not to be tailgated, prodded and given a finger for being in the left lane because they intend to exit using the upcoming left turn lane.

Almost $27 per hour for a general labourer position at the City of PG and you don’t even need Gr. 12 for it. What was that the City said about needing the best and the brightest. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Mayor Greene, and Reps from IPG and UNBC are in Ottawa pitching the advantages of Northern BC. According to Citizen story Feb. 27th.

Greene states that they will be meeting with the Ministry of Transportation about the use of PG Airport as a distribution hub for perishable goods.

**As the Airport Jockeys for position as a fueling stop for Cargo freight operators, they are looking to catch the planes returning half empty to fill them with Regional goods-such as produce, seafood, meat, poultry- to take back to Asian markets**

**But we need the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in order to be able to do that said Green**

There was no mention of anyone from the Airport Authority in attendance.

I would venture to say that the Mayor, and those people at IPG, probably have the least understanding on how Air Cargo works, especially perishables. So we have them talking to some other politicians ie; Zimmer, Harris, etc; who have little or no idea how it works either.

I would venture to say that this is just another jog, on taxpayers money.

Perhaps someone on this site could explain where in the Region would we find Produce, Meat, Seafood, Poultry??? to load on these planes? I would say that the nearest seafood, is 500 miles away, and the cost to bring it to Prince George would be prohibitive (also stupid). The same would apply to other products.

We have yet to build the warehouse, let alone a refrigerated warehouse to store this product, and of course we have to keep in mind that the perishables are time sensitive, and seasonal.

Totally out to lunch, in my opinion. (Pun intended)

“Perhaps someone on this site could explain where in the Region would we find Produce, Meat, Seafood, Poultry??? to load on these planes? I have chickens.

As for the seafood, they truck seafood from Rupert to Vancouver daily. One truck brings it to Burns Lake; the trailer is swapped and the next truck takes it to Williams Lake where the trailer is swapped yet again and your fresh seafood arrives in 18 hours or less. Seems to me that they could truck the seafood to Pig Gorge then fly it to Ottawa in less time then that.

gus: “The street savvy person goes to value for money as well.

In other words, how many $500 toilet seat did we buy when we could have had better quality for $75 each.”

Bang on.

Or how many general unskilled labourers did we hire at $27/hr? There are probably lots of examples of this.

Or how many $700 club jackets did we buy, when… never mind. ;-)

I agree with Styxxx. That ticks me off the loaders putting all the road snow onto my lawn. Come spring I’m picking out rocks so I don’t damage my lawn mower blades. Just to back out of my driveway is a hazzard as well cause I can’t see if anyone coming. They should be taking it away or they can get on their hands and knees to clean rocks off my lawn. Ok, that’s unrealistic but……

I remember sitting in planes and watching the load mushrooms from here. Don’t know if they still do.

There also used to be a trout farm on Cranbrook Hill on the road down to Otway. The sent trucks with live fish in water to Vancouver. Does not exist anymore as far as I know.

Bringing fish in fresh water to Vancouver from here sounds as bad to me as bringing precast concrete from Vancouver to here.

High end products …. Kobe Beef from Vanderhoof ….. ship it to Asia by plane.
LOL

Axman. These planes are flying back to Asia half empty. Not to Ottawa. The Mayor and IPG are having a meeting in Ottawa.

So all the perishables would have to be consolidated in Prince George and then held in a refrigerated warehouse until a plane was available to fly them to Asia.

One of the problems flying direct from Prince George to Asia is flight time. More flight time means more fuel, more fuel, means less cargo, and so it goes.

In addition to the landing and take off fee’s there is also the price of fuel, and of course the distance involved, plus the trucking, and handling charges, etc;

This type of Cargo is presently being flown out of Vancouver to various destinations, however they have numerous airlines to chose from, as does Anchorage. Pr George would be restricted in the number of airlines, and in addition restricted because of the availability of pilots, planes, and destinations. Then of course the products would be seasonal.

That’s just a few of the problems. There are many more.

It’s nothing more than a weak excuse to justify Green’s travelling companion Oland being on the trip. Remember, Oland also said we are going to fill those planes with native art.

I hope all those street lights they are working on are being replaced with LED bulbs. maybe we can actually save $ in the future.

I’ll tell you what, if you arrange to fly one of those planes out to Ottawa carrying fresh pacific halibut and coho salmon, I’ll backfill it with smoked meat, local maple syrup and fresh bagels. Oh and the PG mayor also has to head back, LOL ;)

Poolchick and Styxxx, the first 15 feet from the curb up your lawn towards your house belongs to the city.

PrinceGeorge on March 1 2013 2:59 PM

Axman, as long as the driving public realizes that some drivers ought not to be tailgated, prodded and given a finger for being in the left lane because they intend to exit using the upcoming left turn lane.

———————————

There’s maybe what, 5% of the drivers who are in the left lane because they’re about to make a left hand turn. I doubt they’re being tailgated, fingered, etc. for that. And if they’re getting into the left lane at Austin Road to make a left turn onto 5th perhaps they shouldn’t be driving. :)

Anyhow, it won’t stop until the popo start handing out tickets for it.

Palopu on March 1 2013 4:35 PM

Axman. These planes are flying back to Asia half empty. Not to Ottawa. The Mayor and IPG are having a meeting in Ottawa.

————–

So you don’t want my chickens?

There’s gotta be something we could ship to the Asian markets. I don’t think the mayor and her friends will be the ones to figure out what that is though.

Well Pat Bell is out of the race, is it too late for Shirley Bond to withdraw?

“B.C. cabinet ministers Pat Bell and Shirley Bond were aware of and appear to have played a role in the procurement process for a multimillion-dollar contract in Prince George now at the centre of a deepening government scandal, according to documents obtained by The Globe and Mail, contradicting denials that the ministers were involved in the matter”

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/documents-contradict-bc-ministers-claims-about-prince-george-contract-bid/article9197240/

NMG….what ? We demand beaver tails in that shipment. Oh, and I’m sure Scari Mayor has Ottawa inspirations, so maybe best to just keep her there. We will also throw in the economic initiatives Guru from IPiG as well. ( Go Sens )

Aspirations…..you knew what I meant.

middle finger on March 1 2013 8:08 PM

Aspirations…..you knew what I meant.

——————–

I dunno…maybe she’s inspired by Mike Duffy and the rest of the Senate?

Palupu all the problems you list apply to other airports and airlines. That 747 that did a demo flight here, well did you know they exchanged crews here. Did you know PG is closer to Asia than Anchorage or Vancouver, that plays into time, cargo for fuel. That is the main reason for going after cargo here.

What is your solution, shut the airport down? The market is there, not as big when this evolution was started but once the facilities are in place things will happen.

First Pat Bell,
Then Shirley Bond,
Will Janine North keep her job?

keystone pipeline passes environmental

rehttp://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/03/01/keystone-pipeline-passes-environmental-review-little-impact-on-climate-ecos-outraged/view

Retired 02: I got a real kick out of yur statement, “council has inherited a lot of miss management”.

I think you just coined a new nickname for our not so honourable mayor!

Herbster, I do not think you read the globe and mail article. If you did, you sure do not understand it. In fact, you really have no understanding of how land is assembled, whether by the feds, the province, the city or private enterprise.
Please remind yourself that Commonwealth was into assembling several blocks of land downtown, and they actually do own some land in the George Street area.
The whole assembly was done on speculation. They should be so lucky to get someone to sign on the dotted line saying that they would buy the land. That would be an offer to purchase. They have no such offer since they are not producing one. They have not MOU because they are not producing one.

They managed to play the property flipping game with the PG Hotel property with the involvement of the City and the Ramada Hotel making a cool half million or so on the deal. Most people on this site did not like the taxpayers’ being fleeced for that much money.

Now all of the sudden these people are the poor suckers being taken by the government. Not so. This was pure speculation. They won one, they lost another. That is what happens to speculators. Even Trump knows that feeling.

Alex G. Tsakumis is a Federal Conservative and a past aide and political advisor to Bill VanderZalm. In the BCLiberal Party spectrum he is on the far right of the spectrum. THAT is why he is against Christy Clark. Had she lost the leadership this fellow would not be saying the things he is saying about the BCLiberals. There are still a lot of hard feeling because some of the egos were not stroked.

So this fellow does as much damage as he thinks he can do. It is pretty simple, really. The gsame of politics and you are falling for it, herbster, since his kind of rhetoric is there for the simple minded tons to pick up.

No one ever claimed that the average electorate is smarter than an eighth grader. ;-)
