Prince George, B.C. – A collision between a bus out of Prince George and a car has sent five people to hospital and closed Highway 1 between Cache Creek and Kamloops.
The five patients are all being treated for minor injuries in Kamloops. The bus was transporting 23 Special Olympics athletes and coaches to the Winter Snow Festival in Kelowna late this afternoon when it was in collision with the car, 15 kilometres east of Cache Creek.
Highway 1 is closed in both directions, with Drive BC indicating the route should be re-opened to traffic by 8pm this evening.

I sincerely hope the injuries are definitely minor. I hope all the athletes are able to compete.
Best wishes to all of them.
Just heard that all the Special O athletes are physically OK, and that is great news. There is as expected some trauma issues that will have to be overcome, but those very special athletes deal with challenges every day, and how they meet them so well is simply amazing. Thanks to the coaches and the bus driver who helped them all out of the bus so safely. I think there was a special hand on the shoulder of everyone on the bus. We are thankful.
Sorry…..all the coaches and the bus driver are all OK as well.
The bus driver may be the worst off. I have had to deal with a bus driver after an accident cause by another vehicle which he simply could not avoid.
Big time PTSD for those drivers who put all their emotions into drving bus and being responsible for passengers.
